Mercedes Drift Car

Hi there,

I am writing a Drifting feature for Mercedes Enthusiast magazine and would like to tap into your expertise please - I will of course include an acknowledgement for this forum in the feature.

I'd like your opinion on how you would set up any of the following for a drifting beginner and which two or three essential initial modifications you would recommend...

Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 or 2.6 manual (W201)

Mercedes-Benz C230K manual (W202)

Mercedes-Benz CLK 55 AMG (W208)

Any comments gratefully accepted - I do hope you can help!

Many thanks,

You can't go far wrong with doing the usual basics of any drift car.

Welded diff (if it doesn't have a strong locking LSD already)

Weight reduction, strip it out unless you need the interior in for some reason, would also include adding a bucket seat/ harness in this. Keep the driver firmly in place.

Coilovers / cut springs, low is cool and helps get the centre of gravity lower.

*additional* - Lock modifications, check the tie rod thread size, you may find some rack spacers to fit.

I can't see there being many off the shelf parts for any of those cars listed. I know there's a few Merc drift cars floating about, pretty sure I've seen photos of events over Scandinavia area with some.

Will have to follow the progress on this
