Hi guys,

i´m currently looking for something unique and powerfull for drifting.
I spottet the extremly cheap mercedes w210 430 (v8), the problem is, they are all automatic.
From my mercedes superturbodiesel experience i know this little pretty ole controller, that turns the automatic gearbox 722.6 to something completely different. See at:

I wonder what you guys think about drifting an automatic box, is clutch or flyoff handbrake that important for just having fun?

I dont want the car for competition or anything, just for some drift days in wet, and maybe later on in dry conditions. I know a lot of guys drifting the e39 540 and i think exept of the gearbox the w210 430 is more or less comparable with a few mods like suspension, welded diff, stripped interior...

I've got a w210 430 (M113) engine in my barn waiting to go in something. There was the 6 cylinder version of this engine (M112) that went in to the SLK, CLK and Chysler Crossfire etc, and that was available with a manual. Therfore, bellhousing is correct for the v8 if you can find one of those 6-speed boxes. However, the ECU and TCU talk, so unless you are very handy with the Star diagnostics sysyem, I think you'd be looking at a stand alone Megasquirt/Emerald etc. It is something I intend to play with, but probably not this year.
For the 650 Euro for that box of tricks and some spannering, I reckon you could have a working Merc v8 manual.
Merc have never done a production v8 with a manual, which make things a little tricky for us Merc fans, but there is always a way.
I'm currently running a 94 C280 with a 3.2 bottom end and a third pedal. I've recently discovered that the M104 (my 6 cyl block) and the M111 (CLK230k etc) 4 pot engine with the little blower have the same bell-housing, so I hope to put a 6 speed in mine shortly. What I don't know (yet) is if that is also the same as the one used on the M112/3.
It seems there are quite a few options and crossovers etc, but they are not well documented like other marques. Any discoveries I make, I'll post them on this forum.

Hey mate,
yea i´ve already seen your thread about the c280, very nice car also.
Thanks for all your information, maybe i´ll also try to get some more about a v8 manual conversion...
