Modern Entry Level cars to get into drifting

Given the hero JDM cars or even early BMWs prices have skyrocketted, I was looking into getting another daily and this time I do want RWD so I can slowly learn drifting.

I did consider the MX5s, but they get too rusty easily and I don't really fancy a two seater at the moment, but can consider it. My budget is around £5k, can be more for the right spec.

Two main cars that i'm considering are the :

e92 325i/330i (325i i can get insured on) and the IS250 Lexus. on a general level of maintence, I think the lexus will be cheaper in the long run, but main issue are reports of corrosion on some examples basing it off from MOT history, I ideally would like to own for a good few years (3-5 years maybe) and I would feel more comfortable with the BMW in that sense. I think the only few pros with the Lexus is that, LSD is cheaper to source and fit (GT86 lsd) and is just cheaper parts wise. the 325i, can increase the power to a 330i level, is better in general to corrosion, but LSD is more expensive as well as general maintanece.

Both are heavy cars, and for my budget I don't think there is anything else unless someone can suggest me otherwise? Main thing is pretty much corrosion. Alternatively, I'm happy to wait a few more years where I can get a second car that I wouldn't care anything about and just learn it and just get my self a renault 197 before I consider getting into drifitng.

Wait a little longer, save a bit more and buy a damage repairable GT86
Chances are you will do similar damage yourself anyway.

lowest right now , e9x bmw 330i 06-08 with the port injected N52 engine (280hpish good torque) , 6 speed manual , swap the diff for an automatic diff (3.64) is the best priced / performing car at the mo.
good car because , bulletproof engine , electric waterpump from stock (great in the queues) , also usually have a nice cabin . easy to do a hydro on if you want.

but prices will drop this year for sure for everything

N52 seems to be a really good engine. If I do go for BMW, i will try for a 330i, but will also consider 325i. Worst case is, I'll have to get some parts to get the same power as the 30is. It's probably the most luxurious inteiror wise.

Is the weight that bad enough that it can effect the drifting experience? I think drivetrain wise the is250 is probably the cheaper entry mainly becuase getting an lsd is cheap since i can source a gt86 lsd? (bar the road tax, they seem all over the place) I'll have to test drive one to see since I'm not a fan of heavy cars, and may just wait out until i can afford a gt86 or something. In that case, i'll probably get a fwd hot hatch to have fun for a bit.
