Most Fuel Efficient Car Capable of Drifting on Dry Surfaces

Hey guys,

I've currently been drifting my modified G35 coupe, but I've literally been getting 6-10mpg.

What do you guys think is the most fuel efficient car capable of breaking the tires in the dry without too much effort?

Ideally, I'm looking for a Japanese 4 cylinder. I'd be willing to run narrower tires if necessary.

Thanks,
Canehdian

Lol okay. Does anyone else have any suggestions? I imagine that there are at least a few options cheaper then my Infiniti. I paid $45k new for my car, and its fuel/maintanence costs reflect this price.

P.S Im jot looking to compete or anything. I just enjoy a fair amount of oversteer while exiting a corner.

You dont get involved in this sport.. Then complain about the MPG your car gets whilst drifting.............

You paid $45,000.00 for....... a datsun........... f*cking hell. :wack:

Get an electric car. I heard they have good fuel economy.

American's love them prius' ;) lol. tbh, Niks Lexus is a duracel thing and has it not got more HP than my JZ? haha. Energizer bunny tuned.

OP If you want good fuel AND drifting buy an MX5, or miata in the US. Cheap as it'll get man, but tbh.. isnt your fuel there cheap as shit anyway? It should be us thats complaining.. we pay out our ass for fuel here.. its all backwards if you ask me.

Thanks for the suggestion. I figured an mx5 was as good as it gets. Theyre about $6k for a decent one with 160k kms here, which isnt too bad.

Fuel prices are about $1.50 a litre here. Driving semi- consevatively, I can achieve around 7 mpg on a curcuit. However if I light my tires up on every corner and redline on the straights, a $90 tank will last me less then 45 minutes. I spent over $15,000 on recreation fuel last year, and I was only going out for a few short sessions a week.

I hate to think about how much you guys spend! Like I mentioned, I dont even drift my car! I just oversteer a bit past the apex on tight corners. As an indicator of how lightly a drift, a set of tires lasts me over 3000km! Your guys' gas bill must be double mine, and your tire bill would be exponentially higher. I knew drifitng was an expensive sport, but its much more expensive then I gave it credit for.

Out of curiosity, how much does drifitng cost you guys a year? And how much seat time do you log in a week?

Think your idea of an mx-5 is one the best option if all your using it for is drifting why does it need to be decent, get a shitter and drift the crap out of it till it dies.

But if you want fuel economy then stay clear of Motorsport especially drifting

We can pick up MX5's here for $900. Weld diff, coilovers, rack spacers and a roll bar.. done.

TBH man, Drifting isnt the expensive bit for me, its getting the car ready thats expensive. Drifting here is fine. Say if we had a crail drift day. £60 full tank of fuel (In an MX5) that will drive me to the event (4 hour round trip) and drift all day there (9am-3pm). Tyres, I average maybe 2 or 3 part worn pairs at a crail day in the MX5. So another say £30? Entrance depends on the event, somtimes its £5, sometimes its around £40. So all in, my drift day at crail could cost me as little as £95 ($161).

I only drift at a track once or twice a month usually depending on cars and cash. However I spend far more money on fuel to and from work.. I worked out I spend around £4/5k on fuel a year. Iv spent over £40k($68k) in fuel going to work in the last 9 years. So £100 for a drift day is cheap! :D So logic would say.. more drifting, less work and I should be loaded!?.... :D

The Chaser is maybe a tank and a half of fuel and it goes through alot more tyres depending on the weather :p When i drifted it at Ebisu I was using a pair of new E marked tyres in around 3 laps, Fuel was going twice as fast lmao. That was pricey.

LOL! Crying about $1.50/l...try $2.30/l ;)
After reading your guys' responses, I don't think the fuel cost is the issue. It's definitely my cars fuel consumption. Mint is able to get a full day of drifting in including transportation and fees for $160. $160 is no shit 1.5 hours of driving in my car. Maybe I have a vacuum leek or I might need a tune.

If you can afford to spend $15,000 on 'recreational fuel' and go out for a few sessions every week I really don't think you should be worrying about fuel consumption.

I would be very surprised if there are many people that log in consistent weekly seat time (other than when driving their cars on the road) that aren't involved in some sort of car / drift tutoring. I'm not sure theres even an event available every week of the year in this country.

Mint gets that fuel economy on a 1.8 4-cyl mazda, not a great big 3.5l, is it any wonder? Just get a different car or put up.
