MX5 HSD lack of stiffness

touch my fruit
Morning folks, I just wanted to post up to ask about my HSDs for this mx5.

Even on the stiffest setting, compared to the s15, these things hardly go stiff enough - Its now causing me serious issues with my stance as im going to have to raise the car again just to save from the car scrapping like hell... it just seems like there far too soft.

I put it down to my shitty tyres before, but after having my watanabes and longchamps on with decent tyres, its 10x worse.

Can I change the springs or something to make these actually stiff? Im going to pick up a rear arb to see if this can help matters.

You're kidding, right‽

I had CS1s on my Roadster and the rear springs in particular were rock hard. I felt they were too hard for the car as the rear felt pretty crashy over bumps. But the ride height thing is more due to how the cars sit. Even if it doesn't look mentally low, check your chassis rails. My car looked normal height but when I checked underneath it was four finger tyte.

Morning Chris - I feel that im going to go and check all the bushing and bars before I make any further comments on the coilovers, I just get the impression that they arnt stiff like at all.. Iv been asking my mate who has some on her MX5 and she has them to half way due to the stiffness...

So far though.. every single person who's been in my car has commented on the sheer lack of stiffness on the coilovers.. iv been questioned to as of why iv got them on the softest setting, after I explained they were on the hardest Nat's boyfriend went to adjust them himself and he didnt belive me they were on the hardest and replied with 'Eh, something's not right there dude..'

Put it this way, on the s15 I could put them on soft and it would be fine, id put them on hard and my back would be shattered on a 25mile drive home from town.. on this, it all feels the same no matter what setting there on. There is ZERO chance there all gone like that random one did on the s15, so i can only but assume the spring rates have to be different? However were both (as in my other mx5 friend) using the same HSD coilovers from here, and I installed and adjusted her's for her.. so i just dont know.

As said though, I'll check over the rear end when I can to make sure its nothing obvious then report back... :/ hmm. If there wasnt so much play in the dampness then all my 'scraping' in the archs problems would be solved, when I slammed the s15.. I had no arch gap but because it was rock hard, this was never an issue.. I have like an inch of gap and the thing grounds out all the time and scapes :(

Maybe they've changed the spec since i had my ones, but for instance when the car was sat level, even if I pushed down on the rear quarter with all my weight there was almost no movement at all. If anything I always felt the car was too stiff at the rear. The fronts were about right.

Maybe they've just got the wrong springs on or something? I even ran mine with about 5mm of droop on the rear springs so it's not like I was running mad preload either.

Mine were CS1s rather than the HSDs but I think the specs are meant to be the same.

yeh i think your right on that one, no i can defo push down on the rear of the car and lower the arch gap to the tyre which is around an inch! I also weigh around 9 stone and im built like a twix... :/ hmm. So something cant be right.

I'm sure this is stupid, but are you SURE you actually have them on the stiffest setting and not on the softest? I know its stupid, but I've heard of worse!
