Bit gutted about this but here goes anyway... (and yeah I realise it's the stupidest time ever to be posting a car for sale!)
Most info on the car is in my project thread: http://www.driftworks.com/forum/drift-car-projects-builds/191265-another-mx5-project-daily.html
First of all the bad bit. The head gasket has gone. A few weeks ago the water pump inlet pipe snapped and dumped my coolant. Despite pulling over straight away it looks like the head gasket blew. I did see traces of copper particles in the coolant though which is apparently a sign of K-Seal (dodgy HG repair fluid) so it may have had probs in the past. I did a quick compression test with my cheap SparesWorld tester and every cylinder was between 50 and 90psi. When I bought the car I did the same test and got nearly bang on 190 on every cylinder
The general consensus seems to be that a new engine is the way to go. I've found one locally from a 2004 car (with around 55k miles) for £200. Apparently it's an easy swap. If the car doesn't sell fairly quickly then that's what I'll be doing. That or just breaking it.
So the better stuff..
- It's a mk2 1.8 iS which means it has the torsen limited slip diff, Nardi wheel etc.
- Taxed until around May, MOT until October
- When I bought it in September, it got a new water pump, cam belt/aux belts, various seals/gaskets, all new silicone hoses, plugs, ht leads, front brake pads
- Rokkor coilovers
- Bits & bobs like number plate bracket, tow strap
Prices:
The car with no hardtop or roll bar and standard back box: £850
The car with all of the above: £1400
Might sound a lot but £200 and a 1-2 days would get it back on the road (also it's worth more in parts).
Don't ask me what my best price is because this is it. At that price I'm losing about £1k since September and I can't afford to lose any more.
Realistically I know it's not that likely that anyone will want it. I've lost the enthusiasm (+budget +wife's patience!) to fix it up but cant afford to sell it for any less.
