Mx5 Turbo Build Costs??

Hi Guys,

I seen a couple of build threads on here, but I just wondered roughly what sort of costs have peoples Mx5 build threads came to?

Obviously its all subjective budget parts = budget build, performance parts = performance prices, but I am looking to buy and build one for around £1500 (parts sourced myself and the build done by myself) :D am i dreaming :D

I drove an MX5 turbo at Pod yesterday, loads of fun! The guy who built it replaced the pistons and freshened other engine bits. He said the conversion could be done to mine for £2k doing most of the work myself.

If you can source second hand conversion parts then I'm sure you can do it for cheaper.

Ian. :)

Well theres a full kit on ebay from the states for £360 + p&p, I dont think it would be up to much and you would still need the ECU sorting out, also theres a mani from the states for £90 I imagine it will be made from monkey metal but like I say all depends what level of build your going for...a full forge build would be a whole different figure again!

I managed to find a BBR kit on the cheap, negotiated the turbo kit + engine for £350... Transplanted myself but only running 7.5 psi due to piggyback ecu limitations but boost be boost!

fuck that..

FM/BEGi log manifold, chineese t25, homebrew exhaust, wideband 02, manual boost controller, intercooler and diy pipework, a pnp megasquirt, and some 550cc rx8 injectors. mapped properly you'll bend rods before your limited by anything listed (piggybacks will blow your shit up). it'll be all the little things that add up in the end though

all depends wether you do it properly which will cost you betewn 1500 to 2000 or can do it for around 500 to 1000 depends on wether you buy cheap shitty turbo or a decent 2nd turbo wether you run intercooler or not n so on

I know what you mean, been renovating my house and I am sure I've spent more on screws and fixings than I have on the Kitchen and Bathroom!!

Well for now it will be a budget build, I know where to put the lumps of money and the bit I have to skimp on will be the bits that get upgraded in time, so just getting a base build will be the plan for now on the cheap then I can slowly get little tricks and improvements without the mrs noticing ;)

It's much easyer and cheaper to buy one thats already been done, fix a couple of niggling problems that it will probably have and then drive that.

You can run upto 5psi with just a Vortec Aux-FPR, then you can fit an EMB or similar to run more boost if you want.

Even at low Psi they're a hoot to drive tho.
