My new Drift project (now with pics)

Hi every1

i dont no if all of you read my post about what 1st car to get, well anyway i wanted to get something i could drift as a 1st car but it seemed to be abit of a headache. so i just thought id get another s13 and just have it as a drift slag and just get a cheap car to use on the road.

well i finally found a S13 its a facelift in grey with blown engine, should be picking it up on sat :D the car is totaly mint apart from 2 small dents and dodgey repair job on the tailgate.

ive also sourced a sr20det engine and gearbox but the guys on holiday at the mo but i think i have 1st dibbs on it :wack:

the car has full apex system, induction kit, apex springs and hes also chucked in a saab fmic.

i have some parts which i already have to fit; sparco bucket seat, warlbro fuel pump, unichip (maybe), boost controller and maybe a nismo clutch.

my plans are to 1st fit all those things and strip the interior. then get the diff welded up and maybe chop the springs.

ill post pics up of the car as soon as i get it

oh and what do u think about chopping the apex springs and welding the s13 diff or would it be worth welding s14 one

thanks
Yasir

Sounds great! Don't cut the springs, and strip your interior before you put the parts in lol.

You can weld the VLSD but it won't last too long. Grab a Kaaz 2 Way. Get some coilovers aswell.

sounds like a good start, make sure you get colder sparkplugs if you're upping the boost.
Cutting springs isn't great, especially if they're progressive ones. They should be quite a bit lower than standard so just run with them for a while and see how you get on. It's not a neccessity to have a car really really low for drifting, it just looks funky :p
Once you're happy with the car and your driving, you might want to look at upgrading to coilovers

As for diffs, if you're getting it welded, you'll need an open S13 diff, you can't easily weld up an S13 LSD and all S14s came with an LSD, which again, can't be easily welded

Listen to James and Ash, I agree with what they are saying.
BUT:
Stay well away from UNI CHIP's. They don't work well with 200sx's and I don't know of a single person who is happy with them. Contact Jez at Horsham Development's. He does a really nice stage 1 chip for the S13 & S14. They are tried and tested, so that would be my choice.
People have told me that cutting springs is a bad way to go :( They mess up the springs and give them a weird jelly feeling. Or so Im told...

we have to cut 1 coil out on the TRD rear spring for the corolla, otherwise, it looks like stock rear with lowered front. but every now and then when jack up the rear, the spring will just dislocate and make one big bang when pull off.

don't know anyone actually cut spring on the s-body. just get it running first and go to some drift day, then you will know what's your next mod.

Yeh i think ill giv cutting the springs a miss then!

would it be ok to learn with the drift i already have then?

thanks for the great advice

Drifting can get quite difficult with cust springs as you can't judge exactly what the car is going to do (if new to drifting) and that can cause really expensive problems, apex springs drop by either 35 or 55mm anyway which will be more than low enough for everyday driving ie speed bumps and car parks!!

Agree with Guishnu completely, stay AWAY from uni chip. Deffo take a trip to www.horsham-developments.co.uk and speak to Jez he's more than helpful.
I run his stg2 chip and our s13 and its amazing much better than even its closest rival the ND stg1.

So are you going to drop the SR or stick to the CA?? you mentioned you have a Nismo clutch for the car but are considering a transplant?

yeh im going to leave cutting the springs, dont like the sound of that anymore.

im not to keen on chips i was just goin to use the unichip bcoz it was lying in my garage and seemed to do a gd job wen it was on the gtir. but if not then id rather just go for power fc.

yeh im defo going for SR, i have a nismo gtir clutch which should fit with a few slight mods. we used a s14 os giken twin plate for the gtir n it wernt anythink major to get it to fit. just cant remember exactly what my dad done.

If you only go for the FC remeber you have to retard the ignition too or you'll have probs

Use the TDC marks on the crank underdrive and match it up to BTDC to the correct amount and then using the CAS and a strobe gun adjust the ignition timing to match.
That simple.

Here's pics as promised :)
