New - Bought the wrong car :(

Hi all,

I am new to drifting and fucked up and bought the wrong car.

Its an E36 with a 316 lump in it.

Its stripped with a welded diff, i have fitted a hydro, bucket seats and a steering wheel. Only trouble is, now that I have taken it out for a spin, it won't even drift with a clutch kick in 2nd gear.

I had booked Llyden Hill next weekend but think I need to cancel and start with a new car.

Can I have some advise please as to what engine size to buy and if it even worth trying the day at Llyden?

Thanks
Jon

Yaaah....the 316 is gutless as sin.
You could try cranking the rear tyre pressures up :)

Most people go for 325+ generally, you could always put a bigger lump in yours, seeing as your work is already done.

If you're new to drifting, you'd no doubt struggle regardless.

Yes its gutless as shit, but it will drift with the right driver. Its about speed, not power.

With the soft stock suspension, the 316's dont drift in the dry, they just hop along, almost falling over (and thats ONLY if you have enough speed)

dont ask how I know... lol... worst (and funniest) drift day ever

Mind you, they drift just fine in the wet!

definatly the funiest car of the day that thing,

So what's the plan piggy ? After all this top quality advice !

It's up for sale. :)

I'm used to 650BHP supra - slow ain't going to cut it!

325 or 328 it is.
Also want one with an MOT

Thanks all for the input.

Next question is surrounding bucket seats - who makes decent mounts that stop you sitting so low?

I made some mounts and they are too low for me to be comfortable

just go smash it off walls and have a blast.

chop the springs to stiffen it a bit, take it to Lydden, and keep your foot to the floor. Suprising what you can learn even with no power. In fact, especially with no power. Its not worth anything so you may as well just kill it.

Shoulda drifted the supra then:rolleyes:

What's the power/weight difference between a 316 and a AE86?

Can't the 316 be chipped or something to make it a decent beginner vehicle?

How do I know if it's a 316 or a 318?

I have cancelled my day at Llyden but may take to Essex arena for a killing

If it was as simple as that everyone would do it
Buying and fitting a m50 or m52 (fitting yourself) can cost as little as 150 , your average chip for a bmw is over 100 , if what your sayin is even possible it wouldn't be cost effective and wouldn't be any were near as capable as a m50 or m52 , it would cost money on top of money to make a 1.6 out perform a standered m50 or m52

Well I took the car round Essex arena last night and it was good as gold. Yes it could do with more power for the straights and to power slide but a clutch kick and you're away.

Only downside is that I lent the car to a mate and he crashed it... Twice. Lol

The front wishbone is bent so I thought it would make sense to explore different options with more lock so off to explore the search button.
