Hello everyone, I write from Italy. I've been approaching drift for a short while, at the moment I own a honda integra type r dc2 imported from japan. I would like to buy a rear-wheel drive car, but I have a limited budget because I would first make sure that the drift is my world. In my country there is very little, just a few bmw e36 or mercedes 190e 2.0 manual at a low price (not less than 1000 pounds). I found a MB 190e 2.0 122hp manual and I'd like to know if by lightening it and mounting a lowered suspension kit and a set of light rims i could get a fun car to drive. I accept advice!

chao,,,,,,if the rear wheels are connected to the engine alone why the hell not ! 122hp isnt a lot but its a power to weight balance thing so strip it like its a leggy 34dd brunette then as time goes look for more power ,,,,google 190 turbo and follow suit : ) or turbobricks for some volvo inspiration

As much as you dare really.
a fully prepped drift car is basically an open shell with wide arches riveted to it. What is keeping it together is tubing and a roll cage. If you don't intend to ever drive that car on the street again, then rip out everything that is not the shell itself, steering wheel, gearbox, diff, brakes and the engine. If it needs to stay on the street through, then start slow and take out interior which can always be returned, take out ABS, washer fluid cannister, give it a light small battery, airconditioning gone, heater gone etc. Your main concearn should not be making it lighter for the sake of drifting. It should be drifting as is, then making it lighter to progress.

Leave the wheels! You have to accept the car will look like shit. Wider tyres will not help you drift an underpowered car. So leave the stock wheels.

Losing 190kg is easy in an old mercedes. The seats alone will be a 100kg, ABS and air conditioning another 40 or so. The rest comes out with carpets and interior and door panels. Lighter battery from a snow mobile will be another 15 easy. Speakers and middle console are heavy too. Strip it of all airbags. Steering wheel changed for a 350mm deep dish. There you have well over 200kg without cutting, just gutting.

I do not intend to mount bigger wheels, simply to assemble lighter rims since the original 15 "weighs about 10 kg while the 15" aftermarket on 5 Kg. It would be a nice weight saving!
