New to the drift scene....what shops?

Just bought a PS13 after a few years building Hondas, just wondering where are the best websites/shops to buy parts? I've been looking on driftworks but can't find many others. Im looking for an ecu/map, 2 way LSD, steering wheel, hydro etc etc.

Sorry if if this isn't allowed on the DW forum.

Ahhhh it's one of those forums is it. No bother, I was just looking for more info, peoples experiences and where to avoid buying from.

Its not 'one of those forums', but asking where to buy a steering wheel from isnt the best place to start. Lets say you want a Nardi, your best bet is to search for places selling Nardis in the UK and pick one with an appropriate price (if its cheap its fake).

Regarding mapping, your best bet is to share your location and people can help you with who a good mapper is in the area. Then is to ask the mapper what a good ECU is/what they prefer (Power FC, Link, HKS etc etc) and then you try and find one of those.

Buying a 2 way new can be expensive and not many places stock new items. You can go on the SXOC/Driftworks for sale section and wait for one to come up or put a wanted advert up.

As i said, its not 'one of those forums' but just dont ask super vague/obvious questions. If you had asked who is the best mapper in xxx area then a bunch of people will come to your aid, if you ask where to buy a steering wheel from (surely you know this from building hondas) then you get a more abrupt answer. Ive now provided you with both lol

Sorry I was just after some reputable shops to start looking around and to use as and when I need parts. With the Hondas we have shops like tegiwa, 6two2, h-tune etc. Was after the similar drift/Nissan based shops.

The things I listed were just to give ideas of the sort of things I'm currently looking for.

With regards to mapping i advise paying a lot of attention to reviews and the reputation of the mapper.

Do not just use the cheapest local guy.

I have a relatively local big named mapper but their reputation alone was enough for me to book my car in with a company 200 miles away and pay almost twice as much.

Google is pretty good, ive found a few things on there.....

Don't be a dick, most of the things mentioned can be bought right here on driftworks. DW shop sells 2-ways brand new, Nardis, Hydros and most stuff you need to build a decent drift car. In terms of maps its worth going on FB, finding the biggest local drift related groups and asking who people go for. Jesse Streeter is good if you want stuff imported in, EPR is good for aero, JDM Distro and JapWestMods are good for quality used wheels and genuine parts.

Dont get a hydro if you have a PS though, no point cutting up your interior when you can just get UK S13 or R33 rear drum setup and make your existing handbrake awesome.

Cheers sideways, I'm defiantly not a skimpier, I'd rather pay more and travel to well known mappers than meet some kid with a laptop in a car park.

Thanks Gooly, the car has had s14 5 stud hubs put on so I'll have to look at the current brake setup. It would be good to do without cutting up the interior. I collect the car tomorrow so I'll get a build thread together then. I used to run a plated Kaaz in my race car so I'm considering buying one of those, was just looking for other options before jumping in a buying one. The car does have an OEM LSD which will be fine for now. Again more on that in the build thread.

In terms of diffs your best bet is either Nismo, Cusco or KAAZ. That is in order of refinement; You may find it cheaper to A) Buy a complete diff that already has a 2-way fitted from someone on here or on facebook or B) Have a used Nismo or Cusco 2-way core imported from JP. Keep in mind the 4.1 VLSD that will be already fitted in yours is already worth about £200 so swapping it out for a pre-built used 2-way diff can be quite cost effective. KAAZ diffs are decent and do the job but you might find them a bit clunky for road use. In the meanwhile you can shim your VLSD for the best part of £5 and a few hours of your time, search SXOC for the walkthrough. If you have a 5 stud setup then you want R33 complete rear setup including internal handbrake mech and cables, you will then have an amazing handbrake. Go R33 fronts if you want better all-round braking as well.

It's defiantly got r33 front brakes just not sure on the rears. do r33's run an internal drum setup like bmw's then?

There's a few places/mappers you can take the car to, Horsham Developments specialise in mapping S-Bodies.

Might also depend on what ECU the car is running, if it's HKS there's only a few places that do that ECU (properly), but I think Protuner can do it.
If it's a totally stock ECU it might be worth getting a Nistune board fitted.

BMWs dont run internal drum I dont think? E36s certainly dont, they have awful handbrakes haha. R33s and UK S13s run an internal drum handbrake which is shit hot as long as its not broken. S14s and JDM S13s have handbrake cable to caliper type which is sometimes alright but usually shit. My S14 rear end locks up alright but its nothing compared to a UK S13 / R33 rear.

E46s defiantly do I just presumed it was across the board, I'll look into it cheers.

I've just ordered a .8 shim for my LSD thanks for sugesting that.

E36's do run a drum inside the disc for the handbrake, they're just a lot thinner than the jap ones and are not exactly known for locking well.
