New vs Old HSD, springrates etc...

Hi, just out of curiosity i was wondering whats the difference between the HSD's I bought for my s13 at the group-buy and the ones in the webshop?

It seems the springs are softer at the new ones?
They have a gold-ish finish?

cheers

Hi,

Yep, the rates have changed, 7/5 mm/kg now.

We changed to this to make them slightly more comfy for the road, whilst still suitable for track with the damping adjustment.

They are also zinc coated for improved corrosion resistance.

Ok so mine are 8/6?

So it haven't got anything to do with traction that you changed the rates?
I got a 1jz in my s13 so its front heavy, i got a hard setup front and fully fully fully soft rear, what can i do to increase traction? Running 235/40-17 at the back and aligned to wear out the tire even.

Yes, yours will be 8/6.

You shouldn't have a problem with traction, how much power does the car have? What tyres are you using?

Its a standardish 1JZ, so around 300hp. I dont remember what tyres there were, but I now recall that it was 225s and I will try out some new 235s this weekend. But the 225s were a bit too slippery.

Its more the compound than the size, you shouldnt have an issue with 225.

I'd be looking at the tyres and alignment :)

I think your key problem here is a) you have a Nissan, they have poor traction and b) you have a LOW Nissan, even worse... lol

This is why we have Geomaster hubs. :) We're just finishing manufacture of the first batch of V2 hubs with full S13 handbrake support, they'll be in stock in ~2 weeks. :)

Could you get me bearings if I buy the hubs? Was thinking of converting to 5stud and maybe get me 8 new wheels anyway.

Whats the main difference with v2 except the handbrake support? How much lock could i get with offset rack spacers and correct alignment etc...?

How does the hubs help me with traction, by rollcenter correction?

/cheers

We cant get the parts for the 5-stud conversion I'm afraid, but we can put you in touch with people who can :)

Some slight geometry tweaks, but the big change for the V2 knuckles is the handbrake mech compatability.

You'll get mental amounts of lock, as much as you'll ever need. They improve traction by keeping the geometry square on the rear and like you mentioned, rollcentre :)

Neat, please send me a PM with someone who sells 5stud conversions.

Im going nuts over the choise of new wheels, I want 17" but all the cool rotas 9-10" thats flush on my s13 only seem to come in 18".

5-stud will give you better options with wheels, drop me an email and I'll see what we can do :)

keeping on the same lines as the original post can you tell me if the new version of the hsd allow for a higher ride height than the old ones (V1)? Its just that ever since fitting the dw geomaster hub knuckles to the rear of my s15 i've had the bottom platform wound to the max and even made spacers to the damper and top strut to get some added ride height bit its still literially on the floor!

No, they are the same dimensions :)

Drop me an email, I'll look at sorting something out for you.

yer will do, would it be possible to get just a pair for the rear wanting a 5lb lower spring rate too as the 6lb is far to stiff on the road?

Hi Al,

Kam's info is a bit out of date actually, we've revised all the kits to have longer rear bottom brackets to work with the hubs, sorry you've had to go through the hassle but now they're 100% compatible. :) Plus you can go mega high on a standard car if stock ride height is your thing... :euge:

How much longer has the bottom brackets been made? Can you supply these seperate? Can you also supply 5 mm/kg springs for the rear? save me buying a whole new set of coilover, altough i would like some shiny new one but monies get spent elseswhere on the car at the moment but i need to address this issue.

Give Garage-D a call for 5 stud parts... +44 (0)1923 251588

Thanks man. Am I going to have a problem with my "old" HDS's and the knuckles? I want the car low and nice but not max out the lower threads/mount.

Is it possible to get the GTR-D in 17" or any other cool wheel with a deep dish?

We can supply the longer brackets and springs yes drop us an e-mail to sales@driftworks.com

Be aware though that the hubs lower the car by 50mm, so if you're going HIGHER than -50mm from stock you'll actually be compromising handling.

If you want the car low, then it's no problem, S13s aren't so much of an issue anyway it was mostly S14/S15 that had a problem if someone wanted to fit hubs then run high.

Mostly just 18s for the cool dishy wheels... :( Grids are available in 17s.
