Nissan S14 - Japan Import

I have my eyes, and funds set on a S14a From Japan, roughly $2,400 AUD:wack: and shipping, RoRo is quoted at $720. - Insurance.
BUT, to register the vehicle in Australia will cost a little over $10,000...!!!:cry:
So I was thinking of a way to try and beat the system..
I was wondering, if I could Shave off, all the VIN's and the tags (ETC.) On/In the car.
Then try and register it, and just say I found it...
Would this be Legal (doubt it, but how will they find out anyway?) and could it be done? :)
Any help would be appreciated. :D

$15 000 or so if you're in Russia and want a car from Japan (i.e. car costing 0$) to your city. Add the car value and you're fucked. That was an awesome invention of our politics - why don't we make import taxes for cars x10 so the people have to buy LADAs and old Fords?
