Oil cooler

Hi all. Starting to look at rebuilding an m50 b25tu engine. At the minute it's just the sump block and head so nothing else is there. Looking at oil filter housings and found a top to one which allows for a oil cooler to be added. In the future I will be adding a turbo so trying to cover all angles. Are oil coolers a must or not needed? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, cheers
