Morning all!

I've used the search button and can't find another thread like this - so thought I would start this off:

This is a thread that you can post your favourite on-board drifting footage, no need to be shy, we all watch them to get a better understanding of how to do a certain thing and also gives us new ideas to try!

Heres a few i've found - Obviously to start this we have to begin with the king... Nakamura.

I did a shite video on my go-pro a while back. Boring noob oval drifting in an Auto JZX90. Hardly inspirational though I guess :wack:

 
Inspiration-wise, Team Fool sits at the top of my list.

Having the nuts to throw such massive cars at retarded speeds with a pit wall that close is mind bending:

Kieran's videos are what i'd give to anyone wanting to learn how to drift an MX5. His setup has been super basic for ages

He's now running a 2l twin cam Mazda donk i think, but still has the ITB's

If you really want to see my in-car stuff this one was the last time I did an entire event (over 3 years ago lol). My style tends to be smooth & fast if anything, so don't expect big chucks or backies

Surly one of the best. It’s old, very old but look at the style. Low power, no handbrake hanging, just pure aggressive maximum attack. How it should be IMO
 
I find it interesting how technique has become a real talking point now, and Nakamura's style has become the pinnacle for so many people, both new to the sport and old.

It feels like there's a full knee-jerk reaction to the horrific Formula D ass-dragging we've seen / still see. I honestly think it's because we're seeing these amazing machines with all the mechanical grip in the world, and they're unwilling to really throw them around and test the limits of the grip.

But that same reaction gets thrown at new entrants as well. People have come into the sport thinking they need a "hydro" because that's what "the pro's" use and they're met with a wall of criticism. "You don't need a hydro", "look how Nakamura drives", "ass-dragging sucks"

My point is there is a multitude of different techniques and people shouldn't get hung up on one particular style. Variety is the spice of life, and as you progress trying new stuff keeps it interesting. When learning it's also worth trying different styles, as what suits one driver/vehicle combo won't suit another.

Sorry for all the words in a video thread, i just wanted to give a reality check for any newbs who stumble across this.

If you're learning, learn however you feel comfortable and enjoy drifting, then when you're confident try new things to push yourself and you're driving!
 
I understand people loving the "backie" technique. The big throw's are super impressive. But I've seen a people claiming to have done them, but they're more a case of a spin and a big clutch dump than anything.

The C's Garage guys have been working on them ever since Nakamura came over and they're attempts can be differentiated by how early they're picking up the throttle. Another is Jordan Tweedie (GoGo!):

I've always enjoyed watching smooth drivers. Taniguchi is one that I've always looked up to. There's a guy over here in the South Island that is so smooth you'd think he was driving to the dairy! All the inputs are slow but timed perfectly. No crazy octopus arms:

Awesome idea for a thread @Bu11et you should put some of your own video's up!

I love the Japanese style but like mentioned above a lot of people drive different so one style isn't better than any other. I have never managed full backies, I can get the car near enough 90 degrees but then normally wash out, keeping it a continues drift takes some skill and balls!

For any newbies here is some progression from myself, I wouldn't say this is inspirational but we can't all be James Dean lol.

Here I was at Pembrey after about 3 years of drifting simple lock mods and welded diff mainly just manji-ing the whole of the old kart track:


Same year, my first time Anglesey but car had slight more lock and few other small bits changed:


Then some from last year, car had changed quite a bit, cage, lower ratio diff, external gate, poly bushed nearly everything. Here's 1 comp run and then a local day for a laugh nothing special but sometimes nice to just go out with your mates:

I think if you took the term "inspirational" it doesn't need to be applied to just driving technique in drifting. Car styling is obviously a biggy, but so is a person's base attitude, sometimes the track layout and even the whole event.

I've been to so many days where the event feels amazing and others like utter dog shit - i specifically remember a 2-day event we had here. D1NZ got in the poop when a venue pulled the pin a month out, so the organiser of our event offered to share it. I won't bore everyone with the details but it turned out utter crap for everyone involved and put myself and a huge number of others off competitive drifting for life. How the grassroots guys were treated was disgusting.

But when you experience all those elements come together it's the best motivational kick up the arse ever. Satsukawa is a big influence for a lot of us over here:



 
Since I've just put together footage from my drift day on the 10th I thought I'd put up 2 of mine...

This is my first attempt at backwards entries, albeit in the wet...but I think next time I go in the dry, it'll be a different story and hopefully more successful!

This is from my Drift Day on the 10th Feb, this was doing Drift Demo's at 2Rude2Cruise event that was going on at Three Sisters.... It's extremely long and I apologise massively.

I'm still building my confidence in twinning and being able to trust people enough to actually get on their doors comfortably! Also running 205 tyres means I'm always trying to play catch up lol as everyone else is on atleast 225s!!
 
Yes Charlie, singing that thing round 3S . ace One thing that can seen with you every time is your chilled out layback 'fosters' style calmness to your driving. mega.
 
Made a thread like this a while back, was some good videos on it but it died a death rather than people continuing to post on it. Unsure if this was before or after I made Insurgent. Sure most people know I used to watch fucking loads of on-board footage, nowadays not so much as I'm trying to distance myself from the majority of drifting and the bullshit that goes in hand with it.

aw298spirit on youtube is pretty much the reason I started Insurgent as well as becoming obsessed with other driving techniques and setup etc.

Cool video, super smooth on the 17's but think could have done with a bit more pressure in the rears when the tyre size changed as it looked a bit more hard work!
