Pro/Sponsorship Question

Hi lads,

First of all please don't flame me, because I opened the thread as a newbie:worthy: I have an interesting question what I couldn't find any answer yet, but I kinda expected this.

So I would like to know how sponsorship works out at drift. Just the basics, I dont expect anyone to be too detailed.

I used to be a sponsored paintball player for a while. (aged only 15) If anyone wants to know how professional paintball works, i would be more then happy to help!
Quick insight:
Our equipment worth thousands of pounds/person. (we had over 10members) We got the newest stuff leased before the season. We had to complete several championships with good positions. If everything worked out great, we didn't have to pay anything at the end of the season, and most likely get the contract renewed. If we partly succeed, we would need to pay like 40% off the retail price.. If we failed we probably had to pay 80%-100% for the equipment.

Anyway, im just interested how these things work out here. I could also talk miles about the paintball business, if anyone is interested:cool:

Cheers

Basically we do stuff for money.

"stuff" being give passenger rides, get magazine coverage, attend sponsors events, send competition reports and your basic corporate whoring.

"money" being discounts, free parts, free labour or, sometimes, actual money.

Few, if any, drivers in the UK get paid to drift, very few even get their costs covered.

The main route to getting sponsorship seems to be: invest loads of time, money and effort in to getting good in a competitive car, then show your results and media coverage to potential sponsors. If you are inventive you can get deals in other ways, like I have.

Sponsors will sponsor you if they think they will get something good out of it, ie its cheaper for them to hook you up and get good coverage out of it than paying for other forms of advertising.

Reality often seems to mostly be people with awesome looking cars, big dreams, and no results, blag the shit out of companies who believe their hype about their 'expected' coverage and results, and give them very little back in worthwhile coverage, and then the company never deal with UK drifting again.

LOL maybe we should have a sticky made up of stavs default replies to questions like this!

Then he can come on post up number 46 then we can cross refrence the sticky!

Would save stav alot of time :-)

At least he is driving .... prob done more comps than you now bizzle ;-)

Pah, yeah probably.
He's almost definatly had more seat time than me this year. He's also got a better looking car than me and he's got a whole raft of sponsors.

But i know something he doesn't. And that'll always make me grin EVERY time i hear his name.

So he can happily roll around on his stolen hubs all he likes.

Ahh, don't bother.
I have better things to do that sit here an argue with these two for no good reason. I sugest the two of you go and get laid or grab a cold shower, because if the only way to vent your frustrations is to have a dig at me on the internet, well... that's just a little bit sad.

:euge:

Is that really the best you can do?
Christ, you suck at internetz.

You should have tried "I am rubber, you are glue"

na cos what you think dosnt bother me, just when i hear the shit dribble out ........... make me think........ nobber

Tut Tut...
Look - your making yourself look silly.
If you’re going to try and argue with me on the internet you need to come up with something a little bit better argued than that.

Calling me names is great, but let's face it - badboyazza can come on a thread, call people names and use bad language.

Come on Stevo, you can do better than that. I know your a clever chap really - argue your point sir!

i just wanna poke fun and call you names...... ur just a blagger and full of shit, oh look at me my name is bizzle and im a drift god! bla bla bla all your big plans and just never seen anything come of it.

Dude the shit ive heard over the years makes me laugh, your just a taker and selfish with it.
There are very few people in drifting that are sound and that would help anyone just to get a car going or to help out a mate and you just seem to get through mates/people till you have exhausted there usefullness.

Oh and next time you borrow something dont fuck it up. (my arch roller)
