Hi guys,

I would love to hear your opinion on my plan and project. This is link for the fundraising page so please visit and read and share this idea. I am hoping to achieve my goal and create safe place for all to race each other

A "safe" drag strip operated by 2 people.

Safety Considerations
  • Track Marshals for fire safety and in event of crash. "Normal Public" often panic and hinder in the event of a crash or fire.
Fast response marshals in vehicle with Suitable and Sufficient training and equipment, would be necessary to ensure preservation of life and equipment.

  • Onsite medic or National Service?
Even "simple things" often require some form of medical support - we had someone in recovery being scalded by a expelled radiator cap. Thankfully, a fair number of our marshals are first aid trained and were on scene to react quickly and administer burn-stop. A first aid kit would just go missing/people don't restock it etc etc.

  • Prepared surface? Track team to maintain "stick"/cleanup etc.
As a marshal, relying on people cleaning up after themselves is bad enough, relying on people cleaning up after others is nigh on impossible.

  • Security - If drag racing ends up involving money (which it often does if Discovery channel would have you believe), things go sour when people get beat...and then people get beat down.

  • Local towing company on site at all times? (Track closure/down time otherwise)
Worth having a low loader/HIAB style recovery so you can minimise track inclusion (less gaps in wall) by being able to recover over the wall at times. You can still have your local towing companies available to tow offsite.
I'm not trying to dismiss your idea, just giving you some considerations as to why 2 people might not be a good idea.

Thanks for info. Much appreciated.
Safety is massive factor to all this hence I am up to listen all comments - especially negatives so I know what to work on.
2-3 marshalls is just number I said but like I mentioned - this is all in planning stage. I am trying to make drags affordable. Money might be ( probably it will be ) involved in racing but like I said - lanes will be separate from each other and racers will go out to exit gate - out of the facility they can do what ever they want.
This Drag Strip is planned for "amateur" users - above 12sec. Whole facility will have smart cctv with company informing about any hazards or thiefs etc

The real question is why are you asking about drag racing on driftworks?

because any opinion is super valuable. i am sharing my idea hoping for support - racing is one family right?! i know this is a long shot and away from uk but the same with nurburgring.... and people will visit those places to have a blast :) the same with ebisu circuit... those are racing facilities famous around the world and people will visit

the airfield near us is big enough to accomodate drag and drift. all sort of car related fun. in my area there is no way to have fun with cars so lets have a piece of tarmack to have fun.

i am thinking to do double decker races as well. you know - those from top gear? one car on top of another ? one have gears and pedals and other steering wheel...

thanks

Keep dreaming, a strip of tar does not compare to the nurburg or ebisu. People will not travel the world to use your "track".

you right, maybe the will not but you need to start somewhere... having oil rig in my garden would help or some connections in United Arab Emirates but in real world you start from bottom and go up

and this can happen :

Gumbal3000 can visit as well at some point... right?

shame there is no support. got all negative points to work on to make this project safer etc.
thanks for input

We have a few drag strips here, we have the largest in Europe.
In our country this would never work, you would run the very real risk of being prosecuted for breach of Health&Safety law, or you would end up being held accountable when someone died.

It's not something that can be run on a shoestring, it's a very dangerous sport, you need to employ alot of people to ensure racing happens safely and accidents/emergencies are handled properly.

How much money do you have? As making a track even if it's a drag strip will cost millions. If it would be cheap and easy, there would be loads of drift tracks in UK which there isn't and there is a reason behind that. Don't even need to look to Santa Pod, have a look to swaffham raceway , small circuit for banger racing and still costs loads of money. No negativity from my side and it is great idea, but let's be realistic it will just stay a good idea.
