Hello everybody. Im new to this forum.
I just need help. I live in Japan. I made this account just to get some help and I hope anybody could help me here.
I bought toyota soarer single turbo 1998 model, factory manual a few months back. I drove it from 300kms away back home. It ran completely fine, and I have been daily driving it, everything was perfect until now.

The car sometimes stop shifting into any gear from standstill. When the car is moving, its shifts fine eventho the gears grind a lil bit especially second and third but it always gets into gear while moving but when I stop on the signal and try to engage into 1st, it doesnt get into gear, it stops half way. Then I try to lift the clutch pedal and press it again and it goes into gear, even that doesnt work sometimes and I have to lift and press the clutch a couple times for it to engage into gear.

And that does not just happen with 1st gear, just to make it clear. From standstill, any gear wont go in, not just first. It happens 70 percent of the time during normal day driving. I never know when the gear would stop engaging on the signal. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt.

And earlier I tried checking, it happens even when the engine is off too. I went to the local tuner shop and he said it might be the clutch but I have heard that if the gears arent engaging with the motor off, it could be the transmission itself. Please let me know what should I do?

And a lil backstory so you guys have an idea. A few things happened BEFORE this gear thing started to happen.

1. I changed my gear oil to 75w-90 Castrol Syntranx Full synthetic. (previous owner used 75w-90 as well but not the same brand)

2. A couple weeks prior to this, I started hearing this squeaky sound from the clutch fork, I thought it just needed some grease so I did but it didnt go away. Later on I found out that I can take the clutch fork out so I will do that. I hear the sound when I lift off the clutch pedal but it only happens when the car is driven a few miles. The sound is not there for sometimes when I take the car out to drive and the car is cold but it starts squeaking after a few miles or so.

3. One time I mistakenly put the car in 3rd gear from standstill and tried to take off and I think I slipped the clutch cause the car didnt stall and I smelled burning smell. I got so worried after that.

3. My friend test drove the car just cause I wanted him to, he was casually driving in 4th gear and he shifted into 2nd gear to go fast, I think he rev matched as much as he could and the car growled so much from the tranny area cause it was around red line and then he went into 3rd and 4th again. Since then I always hear a weird rattle sound from the tranny area everytime the car is under load, like when Im in 3rd around 1500rpms I try to accelerate, I hear this same kinda growl and rattle like something is shaky underneath the car, i never heard that before that incident.

Have I messed my tranny or clutch up? Please help.

The clutch is ORC Twin Plate Clutch.

The previous owner of the car used it as a drift car once a month only and he babied it properly and maintained it like it should be. No oil leaks no engine problems whatsoever. 130K kilometers on it.

Please help what should I do.
Thank you soo much!

It does sound kind of serious, you might need to pull the transmission and check it out.

Have you done simple checks on the clutch master and clutch slave cylinder? Make sure they are operating correctly?

Thanks for the reply. I have not checked it yet. Im not driving it cause Im worried but Im thinking of pulling the trans down and see whats going there. Im afraid it might be the transmission cause the gears dont go in even when the motor is off...

Drop the oil out of it and see what it looks like.

Glitter/metal odd pieces in the oil and it's bad news
