R33 RB25 Turbo

Free bump. I know of a place that will put a new roller bearing in it and steel internals from T4/T3 for not a lot :)

id like to go in an rb20 with one of these on, i know its an excellent upgrade but i dont want to lose any low end torque :)

is it the plastic or alloy compressor wheel Paul?

Matt, how much is not a lot?

James - Its a completely standard turbo, so a assume they will be plastic?

Jason - I have been told that these turbos still give very fast spool up.

I think they changed it halfway through R33 RB25DET production, all have ceramic exhaust turbine, but half had a plastic compressor wheel and half had an alloy one.
Doesn't make all that much dfference really as the boost restriction's because of the ceramic wheel. I'm just curious. Apparently you can tell which is which by flicking the compressor turbine, one sounds like plastic, the other like metal

Yeah, James is right. There is an RB25DET I and II.
The early ones are easy to identify (the engines anyway) as the ignition system has an ignitor, the same as the GTR and S13/S14/Z32. In the early cars it is located right at the back of the plug cover. The II model didnt have it, they had a different ECU ;)

See I am useful sometimes ;)

The later turbo (as fitted to my car) had a composite (read plastic) comp wheel. It was black and you could bend the vanes with your fingers. The rear wheel was ceramic and you could easily snap the wheel if you werent too carfeul when you took the back housing off. Not that I did it you understand! :wack:

James, Ill have a word with the guy. I need to sell some T28 parts so need to speak to him anyway. He charged me £500 all in, but that was two years ago and he only lives down the road ;)
May have gone up in price.
The spool up (on the RB25) was better than the std wheeled turbo and you can run them up to 1.3bar at a push. Good for the high end of the 300's ;)

Would the RB25DET turbo be any good for an SR20DET? I'm gonna be needing one for an SR soon hopefully :smash:

Yes mate - If you're willing to put the work in, but tbh you may as well spend the cash on something like a GT28R which will be as good if not better on an SR.

Yeah but a GT28R will cost me lots more money  What is the R33 one..a T28?

it has a t3 flange, the sr has a t28 flange, it wont go without a new manifold and down pipe
