RAF Personnel

Hi,

I have not posted on this forum before but read quite a few threads.

I have been looking for drifting within the Military for quite some time. The last two weeks i have finally managed to find some.

The Army have facilities at Gutersloh i have spoke to a Captain that runs with it out there. Also a few lads have just started up a club within the Air Force, now it has not all been finalised yet they are waiting for insurance to come back and stuff. I have contact details if you wish to PM me. This atm it is for RAF personnel only but we will see what happens if the club expands.

Its at RAF Coningsby just north of Sleaford and Boston.

They meet on a Wed at 16:00 to get ideas and sort out track layouts i believe im unsure if they are drifting yet as i am not based there. I know they are going to start drifting on Saturdays im not sure when its starting atm or how often but its mega cheap seat time. The area will be wet down so no tyres either. I am unsure of the surface as of yet. :D

I sent an email to a Sqn Ldr who runs certain discaplines within the RAFMSA i got this reply.

"Hi Alex,

The RAFMSA has not traditionally involved itself with drifting as a result of our ties with the UK MSA and the fact that drifting isn’t supported by them. I have however, started some inroads into supporting the spread of information as a result of some enquiries and some education provided to me about the sport. I, like many, have seen the sport grow but with the image of ‘Fast and Furious’ firmly embedded in my mind. A recent discussion with a drifter has given me a better understanding of the sport and I am happy to engage with the drifting scene in the RAF."

There was more to this message but it has names and phone numbers so i will not post that.

But I think the RAFMSA is starting to recognise that drifting is the fastest growing motorsport in Europe and there will be more and more interest as this happens.

Any questions send me a message.

Alex

This has been visited a few times in the past, Barkston Heath was about the only site that actually ran regular drift days, the MSA thing usually means it gets stomped on. Worth doing a search on here though as IIRC all attempts were well documented, it would be excellent if you could make it happen :)

I have had a look all over here and the internet and as you have said it didnt look great.

I have spoken to the OIC this morning and the insurance has been purchased the area has been approved and there is an AGM on wednesday. This is to talk about and write up the constitution of the club.

So all steam ahead im excited but still no closer to finding out when it is starting.

The suface is aprox the size of two football pitches side to side and a mixture of surfaces so not perfect but im sure once the club gathers up funds something can be done about the shitty areas.

The club has 10 members so far and a vaiation of cars.

BMW's,
RX7,
MX5,
Soarer.

Heard about this from a friend who's based there. Would be awesome if friends could come along, maybe not a free for all but could be a good way to get income for the non RAF drivers?

Will keep my eye on this thread

I know it hasnt been fully decided atm.

I know that it is RAF only atm but there was a roumor you could bring a guest but it will depend on insurance and stuff.

If the person has there own public liability i dont see why they wouldnt be allowed.

I think there is going to be an annual fee not a skid day price. I am unsure of how much this fee is going to be but this is one of the things that is going to be disgussed in the meeting tonight.

I am Ex RAF, that must mean something...

You have to look after the veterans:nod:

Im not sure it is going to. The insurance as far as im aware is covering military only. Once you leave your a civvi the same as everybody else. I would like to think once its all established that there would be scope to expand the club.

But as i said i hope the bring a guest rumor is true.

I have started a facebook group as a fan page as such it isnt a RAF Coningsby related page, it is to get the RAFMSA to accept and support drifting as a sport.

www.facebook.com/RAFDrifting

If you could like and share that would be great for us pushing to get recognition.

Thank you.

Alex
