Would this be something of interest to people?

Run full time, easy access from the M4, Based in Neath Port Talbot (within 15 mins of Swansea) at an industrial area away from domestic locations.
Including storage facilities for cars, small workshop etc.

Just the initial idea currently, but ive noticed that apart from pembrey and llandow, we dont really have much support for drifting.

EDIT: survey created, please feel free to fill it out, all information will help this become a reality!

This would be big as most places are closing. I'm sure you will have a lot of support from the drift community

Not being biased at all as I live in bridgend but yesss, everywhere else is so far away and work commitments dont leave much free time, I know alot of people down this end will turn up regularly

Thanks yo, I’m a Bridgend lad myself! I figure the m4 corridor will open up a good range of visitors, plus along the m5 too.

Awesome mate, think a drift land in port toilet would liven up southwales, not much goes on down here besides cruiseculture so would probably bring loads of interest (I hope) I know a few guys in cardiff, Swansea and portalbot that'll definitely be interested and with the steelworks on the doorstep shouldnt bring too much hassle with noise/pollution ect

Dude you could draw a horizontal line across the UK just above the M4 and you've made a new track for literally everyone south of it who have had nothing but closures and slim pickings.

I also saw you say something about layouts being a thing. If you dont want to do a cliche and be all Meihan hype beast about it, then have a look into Tamada Sports Land or Motorland SP (aka MSP) in Japan. Both are on the smaller side or the cool bit could be taken out to be smaller and both are on the flat ground so no elevation to worry about if that's a difficulty.

In New Zealand they actually did do their own version of Tamada in the form of a new dedicated Drift Track.

Exactly my thinking. Driftland became huge. I’d love to do the same thing.
Get your mates to comment here or on the Facebook posts. They’re on a couple drift groups. The more evidence I can supply of interest the better.

that’s a great point, and exactly my thinking.

my meaning on layout, was that I’ve got nothing in mind. Obviously the location matters, but I was thinking I’d like it to be a collaborative design by as many people as possible for maximum fun.

I’ll check out that evergreen, could be useful.

Already spamming as many groups and freinds as I can, i know someone who can do academy days an run enough clients for 5 days a week

YES YES YES. I’m in Bridgend myself and I would be there every weekend in the S14.

As previously said, I think a lot of people in the South would come here, as there’s not much down here!

Be good to get some tidy track experience without having to travel halfway across the country

Need to start this post with a caveat, it not meant to be negative or shutting the idea down but more to help you think about the bigger picture and strengthen your case. I'd 100% be making the trip from Edinburgh if the track came through.

Personally I'd look for a better way to show support than comments/likes on a social media platform/forum. Think about who is this being presented to? A register with a list of names, locations and frequency of visit would be MUCH more valuable than a facebook thread with 400 comments, of which 200 of them are two dudes having a pissing match over something irrelevant. - Being brutally honest if its presented from social media/a number you'll be thrown out straight away as not done proper research.

Do you have land in mind to purchase to do this? This is one of the biggest issues for building tracks, a lot of the tracks are re-claimed from disused cart tracks etc (Driftland is exactly this but turn 1 and 3 were combined to make big corner). Noones really going to have much interest in letting you buy some untouched land to "Ruin" by laying a load of tarmac/concrete. - If you look to Japan almost all of the tracks are in disused quarries, good for noise reduction and also you won't see many houses near quarries. Something to look into rather than an industrial estate (which I imagine would be quite hard to build a track on/near).
You need to deal with the public image too, Driftland had problems for years with spectators drifting on the roads after events and it's also why a lot of established tracks don't give drifting a second look. If you're presenting drifting to someone with no experience of it make sure you're using examples of "clean" drifting, not super lairy smashed up cars doing backies. MCR Factory YZ days was what I used when I was pitching a new drift day to tracks.

How are you planning funding it once its open also? Theres a lot of overhead, drifting alone is most likely not going to cover and it most likely wont pay your wage, need to think about other revenues. Driftland used to be a kart track part-time, and then supercar experiences part-time in order to keep the money coming in. Getting a local karting club or someone wanting to expand a business to use track time on board and you'll help strengthen your case as well as help your funding once its open.

Have you looked into insurance for a racetrack and what cover you'd need for motorsport and spectators?

As with the start of this post this is NOT a "Fuck you it won't work" like I assume a lot of facebook comments are, more a constructive way of helping you build your plan for it. I've assumed you've most likely done a lot of this if you're looking for interest to follow through with the idea, but if you haven't its a good indicator of what would be involved and it will also strengthen your pitch to prospectives including all of these points.
Good luck with it.

Dont worry, not taken as negative. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Nice to know theres intrest as far as edinburgh given driftland is on your doorstep!

Ill be honest, i only started thinking about the idea yesterday! so this is more the initial interest to give me the reason to actually start getting proper figures and evidence together. (my best mate has a degree in business management so I'm in good hands there)

I do have a location yes. Its a disused quarry / processing type plant in an area surrounded by a motorway, a river and lots on industrial type places (rubbish reclaimation etc). the location is already concrete / tarmac / wasteland so no issue there. The biggest hurdle is the nearby office block, but i would be looking to install noise barriers as part of the install to limit the noise they would be subjected to. Potentially a mix of DB limited events and open DB events.

Public image isn't something i had considered actually. the access routes are limiting with regards to the behavior of the drivers. ill bear the 'clean drifting' in mind when pitching. to be honest, I'm not a fan of the "missile" look anyway. Maybe a minimum standard of vehicle in place ala driftcup?

Funding is a major hurdle. and as this is only day 2, I've only taken the barest glance at it. I'm considering charging for storage, tyre changes, and workshop hires alongside. maybe even go-karting days? I've got two gentlemen who have a strong interest in running regular events.

Have you looked into insurance for a racetrack and what cover you'd need for motorsport and spectators?

No i haven't. again only Day 2 so its on my list. public liability etc.

Honestly I've had nothing but support on FB so far! Very early days yet, so plenty to do and plenty to consider.
