Yes, I know it's not going to be FIA approved, but I wanted a bit of extra protection in case of the obvious, so I enlisted the services of an engineering officer to make me a cage for the rear of my drifter.

I saw he was making his own off roader from scratch and thought if it's strong enough for that, it'll be strong enough for a cage. He has a mega pipe bending press which bends nicely without rucking up the inside of the curve, plus all the bits to design and build this sort of thing and is a bit of a mig meister to boot :)

Even when it was tacked in with four spot welds it was solid and hopefully I'll never need it, but it's nice to have. It's out at the moment so I can paint it, and then hopefully it'll be fully welded in tomorrow. Then all I have to do is replace my clutch for the fifth time in two months, and go and play:D

Here's how it looks now, with drippy hammerite all over it. I wanted light blue, but they don't do it in the local Wilco.

where you building that mate? an army barracks? looks sweet tho gotta love the black wheels/ white car! like my 205, i think it may have to be a white s13!!!

Yes, it's being made at an army barracks. Need to make use of the facilities before I'm moved on. (To 25 minutes from Silverstone:D) The new place has a new workshop being built as we speak, so hopefully should be sorted there too :D:D:D :thumbs:
 
I've decided to sand it back and redo (spray this time) it in blue. I can't have him putting in all this effort and me putting gash white drippy paint all over it. That just wouldn't do, and won't go far in getting him any repeat business either:D

I've got the day off tomorrow, so will do it after I've replaced my clutch (AGAIN!)

I think he'd be up for making more. I'll ask him. You'd have to be willing to bring your car prestripped, otherwise it would take longer and therefore cost more. Makes sense to take out all you could bar the front seats. It will probably take a day to do, so it would have to be at a weekend unless you're willing to drop the car off for a few days. He will be out of the Army in a few months, and this won't apply. He could probably come to you and fit one if you have somewhere he can work.

He was going to do mine as a bolt in, but it would have taken a fair bit more work, and I can't see mine needing to come out.
 
i think i would prefer a bolt in incase i want to sell it.

also i'm not 100% sure if i want to strip the rear seats, its nice to have the option of taking more than one person out.

obviously it would need re-designing but u recon he'd be up for making one like that?
