S14 200sx tuning help

-sideslide-

"ent it"
I'm brand new to drifting/tuning I have a 96 200 sx with the sr20DET engine My aim is about 250-275 bhp I want to use the car on the road not just track

I've kinda of made my mind up to go for:

HKS Hi Power 409 Exhaust
HKS downpipe
HKS Super Powerflow Induction
HKS actuator wastegate
Japspeed turbo elbow
Japspeed SPEC T Manifold
Autobahn88 intercooler with hard pipes
denso IRIDIUM Spark Plugs
boast controller (hks evc?)

Right the bits I'm not so sure on
Whats the best boast controller to go for?

should I get a Adjustable fuel pressure regulator?
upgraded fuel injectors and if so 550cc or what?

Will I need a remap after that or if i get the HD stage 1/2 chip kit sort that?

If I've missed anything or am wrong about parts please tell me
Please be kind Im new to it all.

Thanks

Ross

For the amount of power you want, you dont have to spend much money.
You deffo need a walbro (or equivalent 255lph) fuel pump.
For 275bhp you could go with the turbo back exhaust, fmic, walbro, boost controller and a stage 1 h-dev chip. You may even see a few more bhp than that.
Stock injectors (440's) and turbo are good for around 320bhp apparently.
I know fuck all compared to some on here, so maybe pm steve from fc tuning or ring h-dev. They can point you in the the right direction.

Thanks for your replies
So say its 270-280bhp will that be ok on the shock engine?

What boast controller do you recommend?

And steve do I need a remap if I have that chip or does the chip sort that out?

Thanks Ross

What do you want to do with the car?
If your looking to do a lot of straight line racing then your going down the right route. If your looking to have a capable car then i sugest you pay less attention on the engine and more on the suspension/chassis.

Polly bushes, decent coiliovers, tension rods and camber arms will make a big difference to the way the car drives. A decent set of wheels (16/17's) and tyres will improve grip, traction and pradictability + a decent seat will allow you to feel the cars movements underneath your arse.

In the real world (hooning down private backroads ;) ) a well setup S14 suspension wise will show it's heals to one with a 10 grand engine and shit tyres. Fact.

I want the car to be good all round bit of drifting probs drag too

going for:
d2 brakes 6 pots all round
tein super street coilover
tein strut bar front and rear
poly bushes
was planning on some 18x9.5 inch wheels with toyos

Its all a learning curve to me I mean my other car is a fiat bravo tjet 150 so its all new to me

will start building next week hopefully be a bit cooler

forget about d2 brakes, unless you want to spend a lot of money to "look cool" , add unsprung weight ( = bad) and completely screw up your brake ratio. Plus you will need a bigger BMC too, and seeing your objectives are not endurance racing, you dont need this. Just stick some good brake pads, ebc yellowstuff, ferrodo DS2500 and porterfields R4(S) are fine.

Tein SS ... well IMHO they are not worth what you pay for them. get HSDs that are fine and worth it.

Also, for the kind of power you want, maybe you should stick to smaller rims (lighter and will be more comfortable as you will get higher sidewall)

Yes - HSD's over Teins any day of the week -
I run them, they rule. Teins can be valved all squiffy - I ran Tein Superdrifts on my S14.5 and they were pretty good on the track but horrible on the road.

Hey thanks for the advice
the only reason i wasn't going for HSD was the price £650 vs £1068+

So my main question is about the stage 1 h-dev chip and remaping would this be taken care so by the chip or will it need a remap??.

The chip is already mapped to suit the mods listed so no need to do anything else.:) 280bhp is a breeze for the SR, they can cope with 400+bhp with good custom mapping.

You rejected the HSDs because they are cheaper than Tein? Ignore the price, HSDs are better, go buy.

No the tein are £350 less than hsd but i will look for some hsd used

thanks For your advice

where could i get a good custom remap done around birmingham

I think you need to check your prices mate...

HSD £760 HSD HR Monotube Coilovers for other cars | HSD Coilovers | Driftworks

Tein Superstreet £791 Tein Super Street coilovers - Nissan | Tein Coilovers | Driftworks and they dont come with adjustable top mounts which are another £100 per corner Tein Pillowball Upper Mounts - Rear | Tein Coilovers | Driftworks

For mapping around Brum try Greg at ProTuner.

Yh sorry steve didn't see those I clicked on the pro series My bad sorry guys

Thanks for your help

Steve sorry to bother you again but if I install a uprated intercooler and induction kit is it ok to start the car and move it around just like around the drive in and out of the garage ect?

I havent got the h-dev chip yet.

Read different thing from it would be fine to it will kill the engine.

It'll be fine mate, you can drive it around no problem, the ecu has enough capability to cope with small mods like that.

well...

today was the much awaited dyno run....

298.6 @ fly 1.1bar, dropping to just under 1bar :)

AFR flat 12, dropped to 11.2 :D (would love it to be a flat 11.5... but for a £200 chip cant complain...)

on a dyno dynamics dynameter

mods:

87K on engine
walbro fuel pump (hard wired)
ngk bkr7eix plugs
apexi air filter
apex gen1 manifold
trust turbo elbow
japseed 3" downpipe
de-cat pipe
blitz's nur-spec type R cat back
ebay intercooler :smash:
Jez stage 1a chip :notworthy
cheapest of cheap cheap gizzmo boost controller :wack: well set up by the one and only... errr me  :D
tesco's :wack: RON 99
ACT paddle clutch

@ peak power the injectors was on the point of maxing out, but AFR still stayed below 12.

so have turned my high setting on my boost controller down a bit just to be safe

im very :D very :D
