S14 handbrake and brakes...

ok i need to know if the S14 front calipers will go straight on the rear? and also does anyone know if you can like double up the handbarke cable or put some monster cable in there? :worthy:

if you could get the front calipers on the rear, they wouldn't work with the cable handbrake :p

why not put GTR calipers and discs (or S14 fronts if they fit) and use a hydraulic handbrake

I plan on fitting S13 rears to mine soon...

If you want big brakes Matt, fit GTSt or GTR all round. Ben Taylor has them on his S14. Use the R33 handbrake cables (Im gonna try using R32 as they are a bit shorter than R33)...

i wanted to use parts that i already have. ie. not swapping calipers and hubs etc... the handbrake is dam good when you have fresh discs and pads. i was just wondering about uprating the cables. i think messing with hydrolics is too much of a pain. will the standard fronts simply bolt on the back tho? i wouldnt mind converting that to hydrolic as i can retain the standard lever in the car :)

What about making some brackets to mount som Z32 rear calipers on the rear as well as the originals. Hook them up to a dedicated master cylinder with vertical lever mounted on the tunnel in front of the gearstick. Then you get a lever right next to the steering wheel which just needs a brief tug to lock up the rears.
:D

argh! does anyone know if i can get some big cables or if the standard fronts bolt on with no alterations to where it bolts on :smash:  :wack:

The answer is...

a) Doubtful
b) no

no you either need,

hydraulic hand brake on calipers or skyline/300zx rear hubs with drum handbrake

I have a full Z32 rear brake setup if you want it? don't need it anymore after I realised 5 stud is for cocksmokers :p :D

i cant change the rear disc, caliper set up really. so i was looking for a way to beef it up... thanks anyway dudes! i'll explain later... :smokin:

Mat, the s14 rears have an intergrated mechansism that mechanically pulls the caliper closed when the handbrake is engaged.. It's a really awefull design for us, but got rid of the internal drum mechanism used on the S13 which meant it was less expensive for Nissan.. Anyway that means that you couldn't use S14 fronts on the rear without converting to a full hydraulic handbrake setup..

The actual handbrake cable itself is quite substancial when adjusted correctly and equally left to right. the only way to increae braking force there is to actually elongate the lever on the back of the caliper, which applies more force per " of movement on the handbrake, but also adds to the travel, so if your already pulling it up inside your armpit, you need to sort out that problem first..

yeah i know about the brackets. Uras make them afaik. from what i hear they are a bit of an arse tho cus of the travel. i think im stretching the cable or killing pads oo fast. i've re-dujusted the handbrake a few times this year... tighter and tighter... I'll have a play and see what happens :D

Surprising that the only S-chassis cars to have the disk/drum rear handbrake assembly were the Euro spec ones...

Anyway, its an easy job to swap for the S13/Z32/R33 rear setup and as Matt_S said the best choice for replacement handbrake cables are the R33 ones (they're about 2 inches too long compared to the S13 ones which are about 3 inches too short...). Blah blah blah, did this ages ago, you boys really need to keep up ;)

your missing the point. i dont want to swap for S13/Z32 or any model of skyline brakes!!! i just want to beef up the system and make the components as strong as i can. the standard e-brake is fine if you yank it hard enough :)

Matt, the std handbrake cable is so thick you can weld it! Beefing up the system is completely different to fitting S14s on the rear mate!

When did you realise that? When you found you couldn't be fucked putting the work in to do the swap and source new rims? :p  :D

Fight,

Matt, go to TAS and buy a Hydralic handbrake kit
