S15 Solid Bushings

I installed my subframe bushings on the rear subchassis and now I am having lots of problems fitting the frame back on the car. It seems that the front long studs are closer together and the distance between the front and rear studs are off as well. Is there any possibility that the aluminum bushings can be widened without causing the geometry of the subframe to shift? This really has me stumped and frustrated, have been trying many different variations for the past month. The bushings fit fine by themselves but once on the frame it is no go :(. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jason,

We have not had any problems with fitting the subframe bushes into standard fitment subframes. if its just a little bit off, you could try filing them out just a touch. If you think this isn;t going to help, fire some pictures over to sales@driftworks.com as we are curious to see what is going on with them.

I am in the process of purchasing an R33 backend setup as I am swapping the diff and axle/brake setup. I am going to put the bushings on them and see if it goes on without a problem. Will let you'll know. Actually when I get the R33 subframe I will remove everything besides the bushes to ensure the fitment is spot on then add the bushes and see what happens. Thanks for a response and I will take some pics as well.

I have an S15 subframe but now I am gonna get an R33 subframe off a GTsT and check fitment as I am swapping in an RB26DETT and would like to have a good diff setup.

Don't put the GTSt subframe in, just fit a GTR diff, half shafts, drive shafts and bearing carriers into the S15 subframe.
The S15 subframe is much better than the GTSt. It uses different mounting angles for the lower arms which gives much better traction.

I have an s14 subframe in my s15 it fit fine, have you checked if one of your subframe studs have become slightly bent? when I fit my subframe it was a pain as well but it got there in the end with 2 jacks

I have an R32 GTR rear diff and axles but the diff cover is a four bolt unlike the S15 which is two bolt. In order to get an R33 two bolt I will have to purchase the entire subframe. Can I swap diff covers between the R32 and the S15 diffs? If I am to use the S15 subframe I will definitely need to elongate the aluminum bushes.

Yep you can just swap the back plate from the two diffs.

Why will you need to elongate the bushes?

Because when I install the solid bushes and mount the bare subframe the front is narrower and the rear is closer to the front as well. What a pain in the butt.

is your car an s15 or s13?, im asking because you would experience these problems if you were trying to fit a s15 subframe to an s13 as the bolt centres are different.

if your car is an s15 and you removed the subframe fitted ally bushes and now it wont go back in at all (they can be a bit tight) without elongating the bushes then perhaps the car has been in a crash and the old rubber bushes took up the twist but the ally ones being solid will not.

try measuring the subframe it may be bent or twisted:thumbs:

Well I will need to find out what are the stock measurements. I need to get measurements from the inner of one front to the inner of the other front; from the back one front to the front of one of the back bolts; from one back bolt to the other back bolt and lastly from one front bolt to the diagonal back bolt. Did a quick sketch of what measurements I am looking at to check spacing,

The story is this, I had the original subframe from the car but I hacked in an effort to strengthen it and decided to get a good S15 subframe and start all over and install the solid bushings on it. The guy is reassuring me that it is indeed an S15 subframe but I have nothing else to match it against. Does anyone have a picture or know of anything that distinguishes it from a regular S-chassis frame? The subframe came with a diff that has the speed sensor on the diff just like what the S15 has, does any other S-chassis have this or only the S15? I have access to a next S15 subframe that I am thinking to purchase and mock it up to ensure it is fitting before removing the rubber bushes and then swap them over. Had I known that I could simple swap the GTR R32 diff cover with an S15 cover and all would be well I would have done so. You live and you learn I guess.

Great, remember the inner measurements please not from the centre of the holes. Thanks again StarletRick ;). Hey also if possible can you also measure from the edge of the bushing socket metal frame, i.e. the outer circle rim that the bushing is pressed into?
