S2000 drift

I know it seems to be the popular opinion on here that the s2k is no good as a drift car and have I noticed that no one drifts the things, there is clearly a reason for this and im just curious as to what makes them no good, is it something that can be overcome with work/a heap of money? No plans to drift one just curious really.

There's nothing wrong with em as such, almost nobody on here has drifted one (almost nobody on here drifts lol).

They've got cock all torque (only 150lbft, and not until 7.5k!) and a terrible powerband (not much below 6.5k), and not much lock, so they're not easy like a lot of cars, but that don't mean they're no good for drifting.

Just most people only drift 'difficult' cars if they're cheap, and S2000s aren't cheap yet.

All makes perfect sence, half expected there to be more to it than that although I can see how the engine doesn't exactly lend it's self to drifting, only one iv ever seen skid is that one in formula d.

its mainly because of the price. other wise there are afue of them getting around japan. i saw 2 last time i was at ebisu

was going to be an RX8 or an S2000, both with similar power and torque and both have sack all lock. I went for the RX8 as it was cheap and parts even cheaper. forever being broken so the market is flooded with parts. Just be prepared to make custom shit as there aren't 'drift mods' for either!

Ive just broken mine for parts. Shortened the knuckles 20mm and it had a fair bit of lock but you could go way shorter. I ran custom spring rates with a welded diff and front adjustable camber arms. The steering rack takes a little getting used to but they're alot of fun.

:worthy::worthy::worthy::worthy: glen, sorry to see the end of that car, it was looking promising! I know what you mean about the racks tho, the rx8 has one similar and so does my missus ep3 so kinda getting used to it now. How did you find it under track use tho?

Cheers man was just really unlucky :(
The best thing about the rack is there maintenance free, it never overheated or caused problems. It did only have 1.5 turns lock to lock.

Good to hear that its not going to explode. Im assuming that the RX8 is the same type and my one is also very limited on turns and lock.... for now ;)

I have an S2000, there are much cheaper and easier cars to drift, but they are still fun, but I wouldn't recommend for a beginner!

Having a helical LSD standard doesn't help either, because they don't really 'lock' lock if you know what I mean...
