Senior Project Regarding Driving Shoes H

Hello my name is Michael and I need your guys' help for my project.

I'm trying to head towards the footwear industry and so for my project I want to head towards footwear used in autocross, drifting and driving. I know right now in the market there are shoes that professionals use but it seems like for the more common car enthusiast they end up using shoes with thinner soles. So my questions are

  1. How important is footwork and the driver's feel and contact with the pedals for drifting? (Were there times you lost an event due to footwork?)

  2. What type of shoes do you usually wear to drift, drive for events?

  3. IF not driving shoes, why not actual driving shoes? Is the aesthetic of the shoe the problem or the price or both?

  4. What makes driving shoe different from regular shoes?

  5. If driving shoes became more marketed, more aesthetically appealing and also cost efficient, would you guys buy driving shoes?

1. Important enough, but consistency is more important (ie use the same shoes for every event and you learn the feedback/inputs required). Never had issues with missing pedals in the past
2. Trainers (Asics to be exact)
3. Not important enough at a grassroots level, trainer suffices. However competition level dictates a flame retardant shoe and can get them as a package deal with the race suit
4. Flame retardant, thin sole, soft, malleable, colour matches the race suit
5. If i could see a comparison by a respected driver (doesn't have to be from drifting) between a trainer and a driving shoe then possibly. Style is also important as you spend a lot of time out of the car at an event

I always wear thin soled shoes/trainers when driving, much prefer it to fat shoes - as above, gives a better feel on the pedal, also can't say i've ever had problems with footwork...
  2. What type of shoes do you usually wear to drift, drive for events? I have a pair of Sparco Racing Shoes, I bought these for Driftcup in 2015, and then ended up not competing, but I always wore them just because I bought them brand new lol and might aswell get my moneys worth!
  3. What makes driving shoe different from regular shoes? They have a curved & supported heel, so driving over long periods doesn't hurt your heel/feet and keep forcing you to move the position of your feet.
  4. If driving shoes became more marketed, more aesthetically appealing and also cost efficient, would you guys buy driving shoes? Yep!
 
For me it is about the brakes, a servo assisted system works ok with trainers etc. but once you start using a proper bias pedal box without a servo the trainers are too soft soled and kind of bend around the pedal. Proper competition driving boots have a much stiffer sole and work nicely with the non servo set up.
