Should I buy an MX-5 as a daily skidder?

As I work shifts my commute is fairly quiet so lots of empty roundabouts for being a dick on. Has anybody got experience of an MX-5 as a daily drifter? Seems like a good option as they're nice and light.. The low power might be an issue though

Yes you should. I've had 4 or 5, I think 5, MX5 daily drift cars now. Best ones as dailys, as you can abuse the shit out of them and don't break. Only once have I not made it back from a drift day in one, and never had an issue barring that aside from when a radiator burst on me, and I still got it home.

If you can't skid a standard engine 1.6 MX5 in the dry even on the biggest roundabouts in the world, you need to take a step back and have a look at your driving.

Mx5's are fantastic for daily cars and drifting. Mine drives to and from work every day, as well as driving about town etc, then will drive a 300+ mile round trip to Driftland where I kick the shit out of it for a few hours then drive back ready for work the next day with no problems.
Its been through a tyre wall at Crail where the only damage was the radiator mount pushed back and the undertray was ripped off. The same day I kept neglecting the water temp and it reached the red twice. Still drove home fine. so that says quite a bit for reliability.
As Stavros said if you can't skid an mx5, an mx5 will improve your technique. Power isn't everything.

Swapped my 260hp twin turbo 4wd auto legacy for a mk1 eunos 1.8 , with 130hp and a torsen.
For the first few hours I thought I was mad, slow uncomfortable impractable.

Two good sessions down the country roads and a bunch of roundabouts later and I'm convinced that I am mad. But happy!

Also does not feel slow in these conditions at all. So much more response from the steering and throttle .

Not gonna fuck around with the car too much, just drive it first. Will try to get to the next Teesside practice day, (I'm based in newcastle)
