simple question- diff ratios

running out of skill
ok...so im hearing people benifit with better acceleration with a different diff/ratio

talk to me...i have an s14a weldertron atm in my s14a.

wat would you guys recommend and is there really that much of a difference?

thanks in advance breadbins:thumbs:

iv a 4.4 diff in my sil...find it very good for driftin over the standard 3.9 diff ...breaks traction an awful lot easier an its easier to maintain the drift too

in my opinion below 350bhp 4.4:1 above 400bhp you really should be on a 4.1:1

Personally i prefer the 4.1:1 as it gives me greater wheel speed which means more smoke, i find the 4.4 too short.

you've asked about acceleration only - yes, shorter ratios will give better acceleration of course.
for drifting, in addition to what the others said, it also depends on the track. if it's a low speed track, i'd leave in the 3.7 and stay in 2nd. for faster tracks stick in a 4.3 or 4.4 and grab 3rd.

cheers for the advice guys.... so if im looking for a diff ratio to use on a daily basis, want quick acceleration and potentially compete with next yr wat ratio could you guys recommend? 4.4:1

bearing in mind the cars no more than 300hp atm

I ment 4.636:1 i was on iphone typing shit.

so if i was to get hold of a c23 serena 4wd manual diff, weld the shit out of it then fit it into my s14a casing, is that do-able?

can i just bolt it all back in?

superclarkey can you confirm the diff ratio for a a31 rb20e auto diff i think its supposed to be 4.4:1 but can you confirm

Im prety sure thats a 4.3:1 in there mate.

4.3:1s are mint for most things but with a bit of lag they can be a PITA on some tracks.

Iv used a number of differant ratios, 4.1 is the best inbetween and one of the most common to get hold of.

Im swapping and changing a bit this year...
i.e
Stowe 4.1 didnt work so 4.3 went in and was mint,
4.1 was mint at silverstone,
for norfolk and the KD race in portugal a 3.7 will be going in,
etc etc etc

cheers polo im putting a s13 vlsd in the cef as its a daily and the missus doesnt want a welder in the car so the 4.3 will be up for grabs
