Snow Tyres

I've been offered a set of snow tyres to suit my standard wheels (205/16/50) and was wondering if they'd be any good to drift on

I know they've got a deep tread pattern for dealing with the snow but apparently they're a really hard compound and not grippy at all on tarmac, anyone ever had any?

Ive driven on a set once, and they were horrid things and I wouldnt think they would be much good. You had to go so slowly as they just flop around. Id give them a miss, but if they are cheap I guess it wouldnt hurt to try them.

Will probably be good if it snows :wack:

I reckon their hilarious when you've got a pair on the back of a relatively low powered car, smokey drifts anywhere and everywhere. :wack:

They wear out fast though, I only ever had one set and although they were fun, I decided I didn't really want to drive on them day-to-day any more, because it was like... I couldn't do anything but go sideways.

the white Skyline that Nomura drove at the first DriftUK event had snow tyres on, but that was in the wet. They looked really really slidey and he had it fully sideways at very low speeds
They did last for ages, I suspect they'd just get destroyed in the dry though, they're pretty soft.
Hope this helps :)

Cheers guys,

It was £40 for 4 tyres, I'll probably go for it. Can't go wrong at that price and they're hardly used (as if we get that much snow in the UK huh? - oh, apart from today of course :smash: )

snowtyres a´re great on light cars like the AE86...
trust me... but just as cars are different - so are tyres.

There are so many different snowtyres out there on the market.

I have tested several different makes/models & the best ones that really are driftable are the Contineltal GT´s.

most snow tyres - like i said ae gret for light cars.. they give you a varning
before turning your car around completly - instead of just sideways

& a big +... is that they smoke a lot more than summer tyres

I've used remould mud and snow tyres before, only tyres I've ever used where a drift can be started purely be steering fast:) no weight shift, no lift off  seem to last forever and ever and ever too. burned out a pair of bridgestones in about 30mins, swapped to these and carried on for the rest of the night, still have grooves deep enough to fall down!

when I got my r32 it had snow tyres on the front..... very interesting to drive, understeered like hell!

swapped them to the back, and blimey! its was ace fun! back end round at the slightest provocation, no feints required, just aggressive turn-in and a tiny stab of the loud pedal....

Lasted ages too, even with 400hp and the 4WD fuse pulled...
