someone stole my AFM

imported a car from japan, my shipping agent sent an e-mail to tell me that my car wouldn't start, it had to be towed off the boat ( which means it was fine when it was loaded ) on further inspection the air flow meter was found to be missing.
I've heard of stereo's going missing before but I've imported 3 other cars in the past with no trouble .

does anyone else have any experience of this happening ?

Yea stuff being stolen from a car in transit is nothing new. Get onto the shipping company, they should have insurance and I'm sure it's not the first time they've been told parts have been stolen from vehicles in transit.

It's not a hard case to prove considering it's a vital engine component thats gone, if the car drove onto the boat it's fairly obvious at which point the part was removed.

yes my thoughts exactly I should be able to narrow it down somewhat ,

My agent in Japan said that I can get the security footage of the car being unloaded at Southampton , so my guess is that it wasn't towed off at all. and If it was towed off then it proves that it went missing on the boat.

He's never heard of anything like this happening. I'm sure its happened at port after unloading. hopefully the docks has security footage too.

It looks like 2 plugs are undone there ? its an RB25det , 1 plug for the Maf and I cant guess what the other one is for.. can anyone help ?

Yea that old chestnut.

"Nothing ever goes missing during shipping M8, never"

I bet the security footage isn't available either, camera wasn't working or the footage didn't get saved.

yeah, I know . someone steals a £20 afm and causes me a ton of hassle
. I've got the kind of luck you find under a ladder !
It must have just been the nicest car on the boat for that journey. only one worth stealing bits from.

collected it the other day, Gearknob was also missing and the roadside Flare :(
a good tip in the future would be to get anything not bolted down to be put in the glove-box and locked , or hidden in the boot as the thieves will usually have access to the keys too !

Sucks to hear that man. Shipping companies should be held accountable, as your paying them to get it over safely etc.

A couple of my mates bought their JZX100's back last year after driving them at Eibisu. They were exported via Power vehicles and both cars came back on the same boat. They literally had took everything out of the Cars. Gauges, Gear knobs, Turbo Timers, stickers, spare parts, Tools, Jacks, stereo's, even clothes!

Absolute, Piss take.

But its proving it.

imagine if you had defi gauges or bought a hks turbo / twin plate to fit when it got back to the UK , there worth thousands ££££
ive heard nothing back from the insurance people yet. i hope they give a shit about it , put a nail bomb in the boot of a car next time see how they like that one

If your claiming on their insurance for the parts missing, perhaps you really DID have a hks turbo in the car. Would they be able to prove otherwise?

I'm sorry for you, but this is hilarious, out of everything they could've stolen they took the fucking air flow meter. Some people just HAVE TO steal something or it'll itch them.

Stickers? that's just desperate.

I figured out it had a blitz air filter , so they just undone the jubilee clip and disconnected the afm with it and took the lot , rb25's have 4 screws holding it on , so they must have really been after the filter.

still going through the insurance now, just finalizing the claim against the shiping company, hoegh autoliners

any updates ?

had my claim settled this week , got all the money they owed me for damages .

so if your car comes over with missing parts or damage from the shipping company you should make a claim right away and don't suffer from the thieves !

Glad to hear it got sorted.

I remember years ago a mate brought in a r32 skyline. Drove on and off the boat fine but when we went to collect it the steering wheel was gone. Of all things to take.
