For those interested in competitive drifting this is an interesting article and its looking like a few changes coming up for the series over here
Reading between the lines (..."i'm no millionaire"..."dedicated facilities"..."partnering"...) the series is about to be sold, and the wealthiest figure in motorsport in this country is Tony Quinn, who owns the the GT series and owns two racetracks himself and probably won't be scared to build another.
The comments around MSNZ / wastegates out the bonnet, and given Quinn's close association with Whiddett also make me think they are about to break away from MSNZ. Mike's MX5 doesn't comply with their rule book, so Quinn will just make his own I'd imagine
The comments about the "winter series" could be a worrying one for grassroots. The idea of a streetcar class / low power / 215's has been bandied around before, but taken seriously by Chris @ Zeroclass / NZ Drift Matsuri. I know Chris would keep the idea of this series in line with the best aspects of grassroots in the country, however i can't see Quinn / D1NZ doing the same. Nothing stopping him doing the same but it would divide drivers as there aren't enough to do both
Thoughts?
