Spare wheels to not run out while waiting for the tyre man at drift days- How many?

This sounds stupid from me as I've done loads of drift days and do know, but I've not been to all the places/events, so would like experiences from others.

For me at least, even with a powerful car that wrecks the tyres easily in 1 session, 3 spare pairs (so 10 wheels in total, 2 on the front, 2 on the rear, and 6 others) has always been enough to not run out and me be hanging around waiting for tyre people to fit me some more rubber, even on days when have gone through 20odd tyres.

Is that right for everywhere really, or is some places take that much longer even 3 spare pairs isn't enough?

Cheers.

personaly ive only ever had three pairs (one on the back and two more pairs on standby)

depends how you do it i reckon, i always run brand new rubber and turn up with all 6 brand new. that way, set off, straight to the tyre man, set back on, back out and there normaly done in time

guess it depends how busy day is/how quick you get through them.

With Lydden days, 1 spare pair is usually enough.. The time between sessions allows enough time for a change.
Turn up with 2 fresh pairs, burn the first pair, come in and change them, then take old ones to tire man.. By the time you've gone out and burnt the next set, the others are ready.. 2 spare pairs is more than enough with set sessions.

depends how you get your car to events.if its not a road car then you can load it with dead tyres on the back,
I usually take 2 on the rear and 6 in the boot (that's as many as I can fit in). I don't drift on new tyres as it would make drift days far to expensive
it also depends on how and where you drive, if you manfoot it everywhere or if you give it just enough throttle to maintain the slip angle.

using the tyre van at buxton when johnj was running it, and mint tyres at pod i've always got by with only taking 4 wheels, by the time i've burned through the 2nd set the first set are changed and ready to fit. i'm pretty easy on my tyres though. i do remember at anglesey the tyre van was totally overwhelmed and some guys had 2/3 pairs of wheels waiting in a queue to be changed and a set of dead tyres on their car and apparently brum is pretty hard on tyres as well... so i guess take as many wheels as you can, just in case

I always take 2 pairs, take usual wheels off and fit 1 pair of scrota's. Change to another pair and by the time they're done chances are the old pair are already changed. That's driving a car to and from events also :)

I also agree with Gaz, people driving styles also have a lot to do with it. Some people like to bang on the limiter, some like to up shift, some modulate the throttle to maintain a drift all of which will eat tyres in a different way :)

Similar. I usually have my normal road wheels up front with good tyres.. then I take down 4x skid wheels with me in the car. I usually try and drift what I turn up on if I bring spare tyres so I would technically have 3 pairs to drift on.

Thankfully my fiance' does my tyre changing for me whilst im on track, so usually even when I blow through a set there's more on hand ready to go on.. she's a good lass. :p haha. "Here's a fiver and some skid wheels.. dont cut your hands on that metal.. off ya go." :p haha.

Sounds like nobody gets through them any worse than me, so turn up on 4 and take 6 rears like I normally try and do is fine on all tracks and even the slowest/busiest tyre people.

Cheers

only place iv had an issue was at the first anglesey days or if the van has had issue or been late. i dont use the tyre vans anymore tho, take 14 rims loaded with scrap tyres, pressures set. cheaper (fit tyres myself) and no messing around

my car is ok on tyres, wheel speed/throttle depends on grip for me

Just take the Mrs along to watch 'a fun day of drifting' with the caveat that she'll have to earn her place track side....make sure she memorises this clip beforehand!
