Sr20 Black Top

Great engine as long as its been serviced properly. Can suffer from blocked cam spray bars (which can lead to all sorts of nastyness) if it hasnt been. Rocker arm stoppers are advised if you like taking it to high revs.

all mods are relatively cheap thou arnt they (well as mods go). been told its an easy-ish engine to get running 250-300bhp

Yeah fairly cheap but don't expect to get 300bhp for the same price as you did your old cossy.
What car you thinking of now?

A doddle to get over 250bhp. Boost at 1bar, exhaust, decat, downpipe, filter, plugs, fuel pump and you should be there if not more. Add an FMIC and thats you up to about 270-290bhp.

Yeah?
People keep telling me different things
Saying to keep it safe for a real 300 you need
Z32 AFM
Bigger injectors
Fuel Pump
Chip/ Management adjustment
FMIC
1 Bar boost
Plugs
Exhaust
Filter

Thats about right for 300bhp to be safe although its been known to squeeze that out with stock injectors and AFM but thats wringing the neck of them.

If you aim lower for about 280ish then forget about the injectors and AFM. A chip (only one brand available)/ECU/SAFC would be handy for tweaking but not always essential.

i think if it was, it might upset a few people for some reason, looking back at some posts after searching for "sr20"
