steel braided oil feed hose for gauges

I've got a autometer oil gauge which takes an oil feed off the oil filter. problem is in the kit it has a tiny little tube which could esily split and cause a fire. Do you have an steel braided ones which are safe to run through the engine to the oil filter and upto teh cock pit for a gauge?

is it for pressure or temp?
Do you have a sandwich plate you're using to take the feed from?

If its an autometer mechanical gauge it will be a capillary line. and i believe these cant be cut or taken off the gauge without basically making it not work anymore, you will be safe with a capillary line.

james: er i think pressure, and yes it's taken from the sandwhich plate.

euge: it could be a capillary line, it's a thin clear/white tube which is supposed to plug into the sandwhich plate and run oil upto the gauge. The guy fitting it for me (who's runs his own race car) said he strongly advised me not to use it in the instance as he says he's seen a few split and spray oil over teh engine resulting in a blowed up car. :o

so either moving the oil filter or getting a braided hose seemed the best idea. do you really reckon it would hold? i don't think i'd trust it.

hmmm, personally I don't like running stuff like that inside the car. I'm a wires kind of guy...
It's worth having a look at how much an electronic gauge would be I reckon. I'd be tempted to sell your mechanical one on eBay and buy an electronic one. It shouldn't be much more expensive, but will be a lot less hassle

yeah but as far as i can see the electronic ones aren't proper full sweep, they're stupid half sweep which i don't like (and doesn't match the other one).

Look on the autometer site, you can get both half and full sweep Im sure.

I've got a capillary line running from my sandwich plate to the back of the gauge on the A-Pillar. Its never worked though - think the line is kinked at the union to the back of the gauge :(

I can see oil shooting up the line, but stops short of the gauge.

Definitely less hastle using an electrical one!

we certainly can, but I'd need to know what end you need on it to fit the autometer gauge (I think they're all 1/8npt so should just need to know male or female) and how long you want it

how do i tell if they're male or female? :euge: haha

as for length, well it needs to be long enough to run from the centre vents in the dahs to the sandwhich plate on the oil filter, if that helps, so 4 feet? is that enough?

If you need a hose with a pokey out bit on the end that is ribbed for her pleasure on the outside, that's male
If you need a hose with a hole on the end for screwing onto a pokey out bit, that's female
make sense?
Are you able to get a rough measurement with a piece of string?

If it helps the standard Nylon Autometer tubing is 6ft.

Im in 2 minds whether to go Braided Hose, or Electrical unit so would be interested in a price :)

Male is an outy, female is an inny. Just like in real life.:D

Ive run a mechanical Autometer gauge in my car for about 4 years now with the nylon pipe with no probs whatsover.

ok looks like an outy one so i'd need a female hose i think. I've some phone pics i'll upload to confirm at lunch today.
