Streets of Detroit - Drifting in the heart of the Motor City - Midwest Drift Union

So this was the third year for the Streets of Detroit drift event. It's pretty special to be able to see one of the newest motorsports in one of the oldest places that motor-anythings started in. The backdrop was the now somewhat renovated Michigan Central Station, which is slowly having windows installed to prevent the elements from destroying it. Detroit is still struggling but it has started to improve. Here's some of the more memorable stuff I got to capture:

Seeing two pieces of Detroit muscle battle in Detroit really got the crowd pumped. Shane Whalley in the GTO made it to the podium with a second place. Dirk Strattons Corvette was definitely a crowd favorite though, as it's a rarely seen drift car.

Jacob Breeser's thoroughly built E30 got up close and personal with me when I was hanging on the barrier.

Rob Carlsen made the trip of over 1500 miles from Utah to Detroit, his car burned down only weeks before the event causing him to miss several west coast events. Because the Midwest Drift Union got a late start 3 rounds remained and he came to try and win in the midwest. He put on an amazing show qualifying number one, unfortunately he was knocked out in the first round, but he made a mark on the series. I look forward to seeing him again hopefully.

Seeing the guys I follow month in and month out all gridded on the street is always an exciting sight.
