Stretching your own tyres...

Just bought some slightly thinner tyres than my old standard ones (30mm thinner) and it's prvoving difficult to blag a tyre shop (even non-chains like kwik fit) to fit them. I know the aerosol trick but I don't know how I should go about removing my old tyres and getting the new ones on without damaging my rims. Been advised that tyre irons will nacker my rims. Any thoughts?

just fitted a 215 40 17 to an 8.5x17, went straight on and thats with the valve near the edge aswell.. yours should go on with ease

francis - go to either, Collage motors bangor, national tyres in cearnarfon or even better llangefni tyres.

never had a problem with any

I'd just keep trying some shops - some of them are proper bellends. A shop owner last night wanted £13 a change, using my own tyres, no disposal. In the end I left because he wouldn't do it without changing the valves as they were a 'critical safety item'.

I went to a place to get some 225/45's put on my 9.5j wheels. Started going off the head saying its illegal and dangerous & all that shite. Went to the boy next door who threw them on at 5:30 on a Friday!

I usually use my local national, the boys there are sound as.

I love reading how other garages look after customers!

We'll try anything, if it doesn't physically fit then that's the only time we wont try and make it ;)

FFS i know where your coming from.

I went to this place yesterday as im trying to find a local friendly garage, he said 18quid per tyre, i said i dont want it balanced etc, still 18quid per tyre. WTF

£15 a tyre round here, most won't even fit non supplied tyres.

Need to find somewhere sensible to fit as I don't wanna pay that much for drift tyres!

my local garage charged me a fiver per wheel to fit my new 195/45/15's to my 9.5j wheels, they are freaking awesome though to be fair took 2 of them and 2 bead blasters. i showed them the hairspray trick and they were amazed

Just had them done at Ffrydlas Garage in Bethesda (you're near Bethesda now too aren't you so a bit closer for future reference). Thanks anyway Joe.

Had the typical "you're going to have way less rear traction - it's dangerous - it will feel 'unbalanced' - it's a silly idea - it messes up the handling"

JUST FIT THE FECKING TYRES DUDE!
