Struggling to choose what cheap car to skid

Well hello all, had a 328 with a LSD - loved it, till some old dear wrote it off, got a seat leon for meantime but it's killing me, I need to Get something that will slide,

Problem is I don't want to go backwards and get a e36 325 or 328 even tho they are plenty good enough for me,

I was think e46 330 ?? They seem to be be going for 1-1.5k

Would need to weld the diff up -(how would that be on a daily?)

The idea is to get something to keep me happy and save in the meantime for a s14a or such

Any input would be awesome, struggling abit using the search and Google

Cheers

sounds like a good idea tbh.

Unless I'm missing something, the 330i's seem ridiculously good value for money nowadays.

I think tbh if I got a e36 328 again I probably struggle to let it go haha

A 330 Im trying to find info on them, doesn't seem many people drift them at all, looking for the reason why not
Cheers

I'll just repeat what i've heard. Alot of people are apprehensive about skidding the E46 chassis (or welding the diff specifically) as they have a reputation for tearing the floor at the back end near the subframe mounting points. To be honest though that wouldn't put me off as i'd get a 330 in place of my E36 328 as I think all around they're a more complete car, and bits are still easily available/as cheap as E36's.

Yeh I have read into that issue a little seems to be luck of the draw as to who's rips out, surly nothing some plate and a welder won't sort out, strengthen before it goes

Thanks

there was an e46 330 sliding around driftland last time I was there and a few regulars at crail drive them. Seem to be capable cars and better value than most rust heap e36's now

I recently bought an e46 330 and am really happy with it.

Miles more comfy than the e36 (cruise, aircon, less wind noise etc); it seems to handle pretty well and feels more solid than my last couple of e36's. It is basically, a slightly heavier, slightly more powerful e36 328; its not as nimble as my last e36, but only marginally so and for the level of driving I do, its not going to make a difference.

Well now I've got around the 1k mark and when I sell some e36 bits I should have some more, and now there seems to be no cheap 330's. People want 1800 plus for a rust arched one same as a cleanish one, always the same never anything there when I want it.

I just want something that I can use to get into drifting ( drift days) not just private road stuff, but I don't want another e36 nothing wrong with them just Ive been there :/
Cheers

I can understand wanting a different car etc. but if the emphasis is on the cheapness and you just want to get to some skid days, why dont you broaden the search?

Well, it's bout 1k ATM but could credit card another 1k so when I sell the Seat I'm currently ruining my life with ha

I've looked at other cars but I'm not sure what to look at, Seen some cheap r33's with rb20de. But it's wether it would be capable for a novice,

Just something that diff can be welded and that will work not something too underpowered tho by what I've read driving something with lesser power will teach you to handle the car better ??

Being my first car was a 328is I'm finding it hard to look at something with less power

Hi there , yea I recently bought a e46 330 Clubsport which I am hoping to drift soon , once I get a lsd fitted I know about the quiafe lsd anyone know of any others to fit the bmw?
Anyone here own a e46 330 to give advice on setting it good to drift any help will be appreciated .

This is where you are going wrong imo. You don't need loads of power and yes, you will learn much more/quicker in a low powered car.

What i would do if i was you would be to set the search for beemers, mx5s, etc. with bits already done to them at your maximum budget and go and see the best looking ones.

I'm too big for a mx5/

I didn't say I want massive power, just don't want something too lazy as it is a Daily aswel

Thanks

Ha the same reason i got rid of my mx5! it was great fun and taught me a lot but i couldnt fit in it comfortably.

E36/E46 is your best bet then. As has been said as there are so many cars/parts around, they are very cheap.

I don't want e36 been there, don't want same again,

Anything else out there.- ls200 ?
Non turbo skyline ? None turbo supra ? My budget is slowly coming up

At the sub-2k budget you've got mercs, lexii, e36s, e46s, Vauxhall omegas, basically anything manual and rwd.

Another case of over thinking here... A 330 will be fine, weld the diff and get skidding, if the subframe goes to shit then reinforce it.
Overall 330s and IS200s seem to be up and coming on the budget skids scene

Been doing some reading rd20det. 150hp ? Was expecting something more.

Problem I'm getting I see a 330 for £1500 era then you look abit further 2k for a r33 non turbo
You can keep going on and on

Car I'd always like is a s14a but people will say to much for a novice drifting ?

Something like a 330 a is200 etc I'd only be looking to keep till mid next year but s13 s14 something I'd like to keep for a while,

Cheers for the input people il go run around in circles somewhere

Cheers

RB20DE is 150hp, the RB20DET is around 200hp.

R33's are whales and the 2L will struggle to move it. I have a C35 Laurel with the RB20DE Neo as a daily and slow as all hell. In short, steer clear of the 2L. The RB25DE is worth looking at but will struggle a bit too.

If you can stretch to an E46 330 then it seems like a no-brainer. If we had them as readily available and as cheap over here I'd have one in an instant. There's a thread on here about one with a locker, HSD's, subframe reinforcement and polybush rear end. Have a hunt.
