Subframe drilling roll centre correction.

Hi guys, I currently have my front subframe off the car as I have relocated the rack, extended the arms and modified the knuckles.

I was wondering while it was off. Has anyone redrilled the lower arm mounting points, further out and higher up.

I figured I could get a bit of extra width (15-20mm) and push the arms up a little higher to get it sat level.

The only issue I can see is as I like to run the car low it may hit the subframe when it is compressed all the way.


Has anyone ever tried this? And habe they had any success. I've had a Google and look arpund the forum. 1 or 2 old threads discussing moving them out but not up. Maybe there's a reason it's not sim common.

Interested to hear opinons either way.
 
The main issue was that most competition drifting regs didn't allow it - factory subframe arm mounts must be retained

But i've seen a few backyard jobs moving it out. As you get closer to the edge of the subframe metal you're best to weld in washers either side to give it a little more strength so you don't rip the arms out.

Moving it up should work if there's enough meat there, but you won't get a hell of a lot of correction. Some is better than none i guess, especially if it's free
 
From having a quick measure up I think I could get 15mm out and 15mm up and still have plenty of meat left for strength.
And i would weld some extra strength into it either way.

In my head it's a simple free way to get some more width and grip up front. Also I should be able to remove a spacer which will bring the scrub radius in.
Seems a win win in my eyes.
 
Fuck with the pivot point of the lower arms and you may likely encounter some serious steering issues/changes that are likely to be worse than original. If you have moved the rack / extended arms / modified knuckles there's not much more to do surely!
 
Is there enough meat to do 2 sets of holes? 15mm out, then another set 15mm out and 15mm up?

Then you've got the adjustability and can test and see

Would be REALLY interested to hear the results
