T3.....is it useable??

Hi guys - i was gettin a T3 for my starlet - but since i have now sold it and looking to get an S14 was wondering if it could be of use to me?

Spec is as follows:

Ungated T3, 60 trim, 0.48 A/R
Tial 38mm External wastegate with 0.8 BAR spring.

Would this spool up close to the T28 or too much lag?

Also what other bits would be needed? dont wanna run major boost levels, jus thought since i had it why not use it! :thumbs:

it will run and drive ok. not much more lag than a T28 really, bit whoopier. (whoopier?! haha) you need to get a tubular manifold with T3 fitting (normally T28) nick, aka skidz on here sells them. i think he has one in stock to that will take the tial gate :nod:

other than the mani, running standard boost pressures will i need anything else? what sort of boost pressure can i go to before fueling is an issue?

What level is fuel cut at?

Also - is there a SR20DET modifying guide of some sort? to cover basic mods and power gains - whats needed when etc.

Im only looking for the 300whp mark, if that. any ideas would be great

Many thanks

Michael

ok to fit your set up and then get 300bhp @ the wheels you'll need...

T3 manifold, turbo, turbo outlet
front pipe/de-cat
full exhaust
Air filter
front mount intercooler
spark plugs (grade 8)
550cc injectors
upgraded fuel pump
Z32 airflow meter
ECU upgrade (SAFC II or Power FC)
boost upgrade to 1.2bar

i would reccomend also

oil catch tank
uprated radiator
oil cooler
engine/gearbox mounts
something around a 256 in/out cam set up
uprated oil feeds to the turbo!

that should perform very nicely and be pretty quick. hope that helps fella. best place for info is the s14 section of http://www.sxoc.com/vbb :nod:

if you want to drift you want a diff and suspension before tuning parts. i would also invest in a decent bucket seat and steering wheel :thumbs:

edit - sorry forgot. on the boost side of things. standard fuel cut is just before 1.1 bar. its safe to run 0.9 on a standard engine, search the sxoc for the free boost upgrade "FBU"

with standard injectors i wouldnt run more than 1.1bar MAX with fuel mapping done and intercooler etc.

umm i guess i mean breathing?

breathe = normal turbo
whoop = medium size turbo
cough = huge turbo

does that make more sense? :wack:

you gotta run the spec shit tyte yo :smash:

cheers fella - must buy car before any tuning goes on too :P

Sus and Diff i think will be high on the agenda to start.

many thanks
Michael

there are better t28 based turbos much better suited, like the gt2835r :) which i shal be drifting soon :) its good for 450+ aswell :)

Im not looking for huge power - around the 300 mark is fine for me. needs to be a daily drive also.

The GT series turbos are very nice - but i picked the T3 up for $225 plus shipping - not bad!

I've got a T3 of similar spec sitting, unused on a 2.0 Renault engine, I often think that it might fit nicely on the S14...
But then I remember that the manual gearbox needs to be fitted first.

The trouble is that its not one of those things that can be easily upgraded later, the T3 mounting flange and downpipe would have to be completely replaced if I later wanted to flex the wallet muscle for a GT28 series turbo.

So I guess it will sit there until a) A decent Renault 5 comes along, b) someone offers money for a mint T3.

Chances are high that neither will happen.
