The harness mounting point plates......

Would it be ok to use these to mount my harnesses to the rear shelf (metal shelf.... saloon car) rather than the rear seatbelt mounting points? Or is the metal too thin?

As apparently the flatter the harnesses the safer they are, and also it means I can carry more tires in the back

Rear shelf is not a safe place to mount the harnesses no, it'd rip out in a crash.

Im gunna fit my harness in my s13 and was just gunna drill a hole in the transmission tunnel and put one of the weld in plates on the other side of the tunnel, then put the bolt throught the hole should be ok shouldnt it ??

Ah bollocks yes my bad too, transmission tunnel is perfect, exactly where you should do it for even loads.

Sorry to bump a fairly old thread but my question is sort of related.

How safe/secure/legal would it be to secure the rear harness strap/s to a rear strut brace on an S13 with the rear seats out?
Obviously the best quality strut brace you could find would be needed I imagine.

If u have the rear seats out, why would u want 2 secure the harness to the strut brace just get 2 eye bolts from here ??

Hmm im unsure. I can see the logic behind it. But surely a nice cusco 3 point jobbie might be up to the task? It is attached to two very secure strut tops which can only be a good thing. Whether the bar itself is up to it I dont know.

Thats what I was thinking about dude. In the event of a crash (god 4 bid) I dont think the bar would be up 2 the job saying that im no expert lol if it was me I wouldnt do it but thats just my 2p lol !!

imagine you have a crash and your car ends up like this

look how far forward the rear has been pushed forward, at least 2 feet, now if thats in your car thats 2 feet of slack to the harness and your head flying 2 feet further foward into the steering wheel or windshield , nope deffinately not safe .
