Thermostatic oilcoolerkits....

Thomas

Needs seattime ASAP
Was wondering, I'm gonna need an oilcooler soon, and was gonna choose between two kits I've seen, one of them being this one...

http://www.driftworks.com/catalog/products/thermostatic-oil-cooler-kit.html

Had some questions though.
In the picture, it says MOCAL on the cooler, I asume the cooler is a MOCAL then, but what about the rest of the kit? Sandwichplate, hoses, fittings, are these all by MOCAL? I mean, genuine MOCAL, no fake stuff?
And is everything supplied with the kit to fit it to the engine?

Hey Thomas, sorry! :o

Right, the coolers are actually no longer Mocal, we got better quality coolers from MIH Performance, who are the manufacturers of our "ultimate" kit. They're American made, and it's sad to say the overall finish quality is just better than the British Mocal coolers for the same sort of money. Apologies for the photo showing Mocal still, but I 100% guarantee these coolers are better. (and not Chinese..!)

The sandwich plate is a Mocal item, the hoses and fittings are all from Mocal and as far as I'm aware the brand they retail as is "Moquip". They're all very high quality fittings and hoses. :)

I dont know if its of any interst to you DW guys but the Mocal cooler are actually made by a company called "Oxford oil coolers". I did alot of work with them about 10 years ago. You may get a far better deal going direct to them :)

Also interesting is that the oil cooler are made by a salt bath brazing process where the coolers are dipped in sets of 25 or so into a bath of molton salt. After 5 minutes of so they are then lifted out and go through a huge multistage washing cycle to clear all the salt. But it is still worth checking the new cooler for salt as I know one which was fitted to the TVR 24 hour racer got fitted with some salt in it and destroyed the rear axle a few hours into the race.

Cool, thanks for info Bon, gonna look into Mih a bit. Turns out someone over at the Dutch Skylineforum just got one of these kits in, gonna talk to him aswell. ;)

BTW, I assume that even though some bits have appereantly changed, it's still a thermostatic controlled unit, right??

Yes, nothing has been changed spec wise!! The cooler is just no longer a Mocal manufactured one, but MIH.

One more questions..... sorry......

Does this kit require an oilfilterrelocationkit? (nice scrabbleworld that is)

haha sorry I missed the question about the relocation kit, no it doesn't, filter screws to the top of the thermostatic plate. :)
