Throttle Bodies

As i know little about mechanical things (although i've learnt loads in the last year!) i don't know exactly what a throttle body is/does, all i know is its a popular upgrade for more power on E30's. Has anyone got a link to an idiots guide to throttle bodies?

You replace the one throttle body, with one for each cylinder as far as I understand it, allow for alot more breathing. All I know is they are blody expensive to buy and set up!

I read about this on BM's and i think the common swap isnt an Individual Throttle conversion as Morf posted, its just one, bigger diameter throttle body that you swap on from another BM.. More diameter on the throttle = more air in... Im sure there is something about it on www.e30zone.co.uk?

Cheers

Yeah it has been done, the TB and AFM on the 325i is pretty restrictive.

Individual throttle bodies are big bucks, I think what's done usually is either what paz has said, or getting the existing throttle body bored out.

Thanks guys, i found some into about it on the e30zone, it is in fact a single bored out body. Sounds like quite a good idea, although i think the improvements are minimal, its the kind of thing i will probably do sometime next year. At £120 exchange for the part its not the most expensive upgrade out there.

I just did a porting job on my TB (s13). I didnt test it yes, but from what i read there is some diference. It is now 2 - 3mm wider. I also knifeedged and polished the butterfly and i polished the whole inside of TB. You can now see yourself in that thing :)

I plan to port & polish head too and match ports to intake and exhaust manifold. I also read some things about potring the turbo so ill probably try that too :)

Ill post some pics of TB when i get my camera.
