Total noob looking to get sideways

Hi chaps

I picked up an RX7 last month and I really tempted to give drifting a go.

I have no idea where to start lol, I am down in somerset so too far away from santapod, plus I dont fancy looking like a tool in front of everyone.

Any ideas where to start?

give it a go. whats the worst that can happen. everyone has started from the bottom and worked there way to there skill level now. no one will judge you.

don't worry about looking like a tool!! we all had to start somewhere and half the people at pod will be in the same situation.

Thats good to hear :) any idea if there are any places to practice in the south west? Santapod is a good 3-4 hours drive from me.

Make sure you've sorted your cooling before you take the RX7 out. Fully capable car but they get a bit warm when drifting. Just keep an eye on it.

Like everyone else has said. Don't worry about looking stupid, everyone started off somewhere. Not sure how many drift days there are down there but there is an events section on here that may be worth looking at.

Soak it up and welcome to reality.

Not often people have a drift event on their door steps.. Us Scot's travel 2-3 hours every drift day. Just go to sandapod.

Fark a load of us use Teesside.. thats 6 hours each way! ¬__¬'

Just go for it. But as said above when you start you will be doing low speed high rpm stuff so you need to keep a close eye on temps.
Every started out the same way.

Learn at a track day. you'll learn as much in a day as you will in a year of streeto. everyone's prepared for you to spin out too, so as long as you're not blocking up the track or taking risks in front of people you'll be fine. Common courtesy is to let faster cars pass you on the straight by slowing down and pulling right out to the edge off the racing line. Other drivers will have no issues with you if you're conscious of where you are and what's coming up behind you.

Awesome! I remember smeatharp having a drag strip but didnt know they did drifting too! I am only 10 min away from there so will check it out :)

I need to do some cooling mods to the car, she is 17 years old and is running on the origial rad and fuel pump etc. Could do with a refresh.

Plus the stock gauges are rubbish so need to replace them as well.
