Will be picking up a 1976 Toyota Corona 2000 today, bit of a find, thought I'd rescue it for potential dori use. Have no need for it myself.......thinks about it :D So if anybody wants a genuine relatively tidy Corona part prepped for a respray it owes me £450 once its been collected & it's anybodies if they want it for that. Otherwise I'll stick it in a barn as future recipient of my 1G-GTE engine :D

Can deliver to Ireland etc no probs, car has a long MOT & is in driveable condition, it is a slush box but I'm sure that an easy fix.

bonnet vents??? Word! weld diff and fit big motor in this then you are away.

free bump for someone wanting to be different.

What would be a good, and relatively easy engine & box conversion for that, thats not mega bucks?

Or how hard would it be to find a manual box etc to convert from Slushmatic??

find out what series the engine is then go from there.

ie: if its an M series engine most M series engines will slot in easyish

Just got back from picking the old girl up, 150 mile drive home no probs! :D

Slushbox is a bit wooly to say the least, but I'm sure that won't be in there for long, handles rather well for a 30 year old!, even overtook a few things on the old B roads home  amazingly refined, I must say. The brakes work OK. Engine needs a fettle in the carb dept nothing half hour of tweakage won't solve. All the interior bits are there & as original including the period wireless & most things seems to work OK.

Bodywork is a bit street sleeper/drift spec been touched up in lots of places, has been waxoyled in most underneath places it seems, though some tinworm showing in several places does'nt look too bad to fix. MOT'd till January 2007 & taxed till the end of the month.

Apologies to the bloke I embarrassed in the X5 round the twisties on the way home :smokin:

fancy a swap for an LPG converted jag XJ40 with plenty of MOT?

Sorry to hijack, but is that for sale??

What sort of MPG do you get on gas?

And any idea what the max towing weight is?

And how much are you looking for?

I am hugely tempted

(sorry for the hijack Dec)

yes it is, it was destined to go on eBay in the next couple of weeks.
More details if you're proper interested, but the basic spec is:
1992 4.0L Jag XJ40 Sovereign Auto with leather and all the usual refinements like electric seats and cruise control
about 138,000 miles, but it's a big auto and has been serviced well.
Oldschool single point LPG kit with a big tank in the boot
bodywork is generally good, but is a little tatty in places
plenty of Mot and a few months tax
All 4 tyres are legal, but have seen better days and could do with changing fairly soon.
4 new shocks recently
front suspension arm bushes are a little tired, but passed the MOT

Cheap classic car insurance if you pay £30 to join the Jag Enthusiasts Club ;)

gets about 30mpg motorway cruising on gas, but then it's half as expensive as petrol, so it's the same as a modern diesel

Max towing weight is about 85% of the vehicle weight I believe and this thing weighs about 1850kg, but the rear springs are soft, so you'd need some helpers or stiffer springs on the back for towing ideally.

It's big and comfy, great for motorway driving. Funny for pimping around in :D
It's not going to last forever, but it's very cheap for what it is and it's done me fine for the 18 months I've had it.

It owes me a little over a grand, but I'm aware that the market price is fairly crappy for big old Jags. If someone here wants it, I'd be looking for around £650 ono

Ok just given her a once over, some fresh plugs as the old ones were a bit coked up, probably needs a decoke at this age, but thats a 2 hour job on these old OHV engines, auto choke works a treat, in fact everything seems to work except the stat which looks to be stuck open, spotted one on ebay for a £1 :D

I think I'll cruise her this week till the tax expires you get some real funny looks :D

Dec, that was less than a mile from my work! You would have driven past the Toyota dealership (my work) to collect it!

I knocked on the dudes door before now wanting to buy it, but i always got cold feet, as i realised just how ugly it is lol.
It lived outside cleave motor salvage, and im supprised it never ended up in there lol.

I always noticed the filler around the arches, and never fancied anoher project tbh, but im glad you bought it dude! nice work! :D
