Turbocharging 528i E28

superclarkey

DORITECH MOTORSPORT
mahahaha, i've just bought a E28 528i BMW for drifting only, i feel she is a bit low on power and would like to have alot more at my feet, (no lag feels so wrong and dirty)

My idea was as i've got a spare mint Skyline RB20DET turbo to slap it onto the engine and see where i go from there :D

This is one that is for sale one ebay to give you an idea of the size of the turbocharger

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....4814026&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW#ebayphotohosting

What do you think good idea or bad?? I have the tools contacts to do this very cheap and i have made manifolds before out of stainless, and if i want i can design it all in CAD and have it made for less then a few hundard :D

all in i think it would cost about £500 ish to do :D whould be cool :D

so do you think it would be worth it :D

Why not just stick a 3.5 or 3.0 V8 in there ? 3.5 is an easy swap and you can get a good engine for a lot less than 500 pounds.

Because it's not such an easy swap and it's not so cool.

Effort VS performance, turboing it is much cooler.

Once you've got the design sorted we can bolt one to mine too, although I'm still more keen on the M5 transplant route.

A while ago we were talking about turbocharging the older bimmer motors on PBMW forums and if I remember rightly the vauxhall 6 cylinder diesel turbo manifold fits. I think from the carlton, senator and omega cars.

I can do some digging for the info if you like, but I think your 2.8 is an M50 variant and so Active Autowerke do turbo's for those. Cheapest option to make a manifold yourself or get a race exhaust manufacturer to knock a tubular one up as I intend to do, if I ever get round to it, for my 325. Without the air-con pump there is a nice mounting place at the front off side of the block.

rich the turbo has a t3 flange, you will need the skyline elbow aswell, it can run upto 1 bar and will spool quick as its got ceramic bearings.

Hmm well the Vauxhall 6 cyl diesel in the Omega is the BMW TDS engine from the E34 525TDS... so might possibly fit although I somehow doubt it. Worth investigating though.

The 2.8 is the M30 12v SOHC, no M52 2.8 goodness for us.
