Wanted WANTED AE86 Distributor

hi,

i've just finally registered for the forum. My AE86 has died...it wont start. The car needs a new distributor. Has anyone got one for sale? or know of where i can get one? many thanks in advance. My AE86 is a 1987 model. I dont want to pay 300+ that toyota are asking :confused:

Get it from a scrap yard. I think the distributor is same on all 4age. So MR2 (upto 1989) and Corolla Gt/GTi (upto 1991) will have same. Ive got some parts from engines from scrap yards and its saved me a fortune :D, had problems with starting and misfire aswell.

Is it turning over ? Describe the problem more about starting someone on here maybe able to help.
 
The engine turns, misfires and then doesnt do anything. i drove it fine the evening before, but that was the 1st time i drove it for 2 months or so. i called the RAC out who said the ignition coil was knackered. i bought one from toyota for 61 quid, and that didnt solve it.

So i called out the RAC again and the car was taken to an approved garage for diagnostic. they came back to me and told me that it needed a distributor.

Ive looked on the Toyota EPC catalog. The AE86 has different distributor compared to both the AW11, AE82 and AE92- each has a different part number!

My car did something similar, but it did run. I also changed ignition coil (only 43 from local parts shop). This didnt solve so I changed spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor arm and HT leads. Turns out it was HT lead (one was not sparking) and the car runs lovely now.

When RAC guy came to mine he said I had a blown head gasket :eek: but my mate didnt believe him and insisted it was something else. Glad I listened to my mate. Moral of story is dont listen to first opinion..

Oh also check the HT leads are in correct order on distributor cap, we put em back the wrong way and spent all day thinking why does the car not start :smash:

Check if there is a spark coming out of each HT lead
 
Alrite mate, ive got a dizy for a '86 if you want one, im not needing it anymore due to a 20valve transplant! Im looking for £60! Doesnt include cap or rotor arm, due to they were knew and my mate already had them for his '86! It is in fine working order!
