I've lurked here for some time but never posted, just read. I finally picked up a car that I plan on building into a drift car and I am in quite the pickle. I traded a b13 Sentra SE-R for a e36 325is with 240k. He wanted an auto cross car I wanted a drift car win win. I knew it needed a timing chain, the ticking its making from stretching is a nice reminder, then I compression tested it and I was 1 away from Yahtzee . Cylinder 3 was low at 125psi. I have not had a chance to leak down test it to source the actual problem. This is where I hit my predicament, I am seeing timing chain kits for 500 and then depending on what is wrong with the 3rd cylinder I could be looking at sending it to the machine shop before it runs right again. I am also looking at ways to get some more power in it. Possibly 1j or lsx swap, but i have also been reading into forced induction. Any insight on whether or not it is worth it to put money into a 240k long block or just go straight into a swap. This car will be for mostly on the track and the occasional trip to work and back.
