Widebody Turbo LS Supra Build

LS Driven

I'm really not much of a writer, so hopefully this isn't too painful of a thread for everyone. :)

I have always been interested in drifting, and racing in general. I worked with an oval stock car racing team for a number of years, so most of my experience is with suspension setup. So almost everything you see here is a first for myself! No prior experience in any aspect!

The candidate for my project is my 4 year daily driven MA70 Supra with it's original (and tired) 7MGTE. Since the 7M has poor aftermarket support and is a rather outdated engine I felt it was time to make the car more current. Reliability, cost of modification and parts availability were the inspiration for this project.

Project Plans:

-wide-body
-4.8 LS twin turbo and T-56 trans
-manual rack and pinion conversion

My goal is to build a reliable weekend warrior that can take the abuse on the track, and not spend a fortune doing so. So the Chevy LS fit the bill perfectly! Found two complete 4.8L truck engines for $200 with an engine stand. Sold one engine for $200cad and now have a free LS! Clevite bearings, oem piston rings, and arp hardware are waiting to be installed. Currently waiting on some more goodies from ICT Billet! Fuzzy picture...sorry.

Since weekend drift events will be my focus, I wanted a solid trans that I could still take on highway duty for road trips. :) The T-56 imo, is a great option for this! Landed a good condition T-56 for $500cad that needed the third gear syncro replaced! All gears are in great shape! Probably won't tackle that until fall this year.

For the suspension I replaced the old worn bushings with energy suspension poly bushings. Sway bar links were replaced with adjustable. Ball-joints were replaced with new oem replacements. Factory sway bars are staying for now. Will get different bars depending on how the car feels in the future. Megan coils will be staying on the car, but may replace with Fortune Auto in the future. Still need to tackle the horrific steering angle these cars came with...but that will be a project for this winter when I do rack and pinion with the LS swap.

Wide-body came from Shine Auto Project in the states. $2000cad for the unfinished panels by the time they landed. Fitment left something to be desired...but with some time and patience I got them to fit acceptably. Rears are painted now, but the front needs a little more work on the door line before I finish and paint them. Sideskirts will be installed after I'm happy with front fitment.

Added 2" clearance in the rear and 1.25" clearance in the front.

Have a fair amount more on the car. I will upload more random stuff's by the weekend likely! If you have questions, opinions or advice please post!

There's another MA70 on here that had a good solution for adding angle, i think the build thread is called "The Sergeant" or something like that

That is epic info. Thanks joelhachiroku! Just followed their page for when i'm ready for that! Not sure what they can do though. :/ planning to use a flaming river mustang rack. I may be up a creek without a paddle for premade kits!

Got my hands on a set of XXR 535 wheels and tires for a great price. Offset and width is sitting good in the rear with a 17x9.75 +20 and a 1" spacer. Sits pretty much flush with the 295/45R17 street slicks they came with. However, for the sake of my fenders I am going to be ordering some 275/40R17 tires. My matching fronts in a 17x8 are coming in next week. Will have a 245/45R17.

Just for fun I put the other rear on the front and set the fender on. Lol. It would almost work. XP

Hey man brand new to the forum
I have a very similar build in mind for my 87 mk3 , I read that for a t56 the trans tunnel has to be modified, did you run into that issue or did it bolt up? Your car looks excellent by the way thanks in advance
