Its a simple change with either conversion plate or bellhousing, so in my eyes yes it will fit. Although it would be pointless
However looked at ratios of z33 gearbox and it seems to make a bit of sense here if applied to the CA18 in terms of top speed/economy (basically length of 6th).
But with SR, the top is actually longer (0.759) with the stock gearbox than the Z33 item (.838).
If you also swap in the diff from a Z33, this starts to make more sense... 3.098 sr VS 2.809172 with Z33.
However why would you not get a diff with a longer final drive anyway? If you want to keep gears close to eachother, and don't mind switching in a Z33 diff or a similar one, then Z33 transplant makes sense as, by using the ratios above, the Z33 transmission and diff set up seems to be 1.1x as long as the stock SR, meaning that at 100mph in an SR, doing the same revs in top gear with the Z33 transmission/diff setup, you'll be doing 110mph.
worth it? you tell me
how can you do this? can someone else tell me? i have an auto in my s13 and wouldn't mind switching straight to a Z33 if it's fairly straightforward as the gears are short in a normal CA18DET's box, however if it was my SR20DET with stock box, i wouldn't bother.
I had an SR22DET (bored out) with stock SR gearbox in an S13 and found motorway economy to be extremely good for the performance/type of car, regularly averaging well above 30mpg on a run.
