would a 6 speed gtr gearbox fit on an sr20 ?

im getting mixed thoughts here, does it or doesnt it? i want a 6 speed to get that top end and also get more fuel economy aswell. let alone be able to run at higher bhp, and whats the difference between a z33 and a gtr gearbox?

you need a conversion bell housing slave cylinder a clutch and the box. (Sure someone will corect me if ive missed something) o and custom drive shaft

Because of the 4 wheel drive you can find that GTR boxes have had a harder life than GTs boxes. as far as i'm lead to believe the GTR box is very simaler to the GTs box. you won't need the transferbox.

Is the main goal the stronger box or do you just want 6 speed?

You can bolt it up using and rb25 gearbox conversion plate.

But there is no point if it's for fuel eco! The 6spd getrag box's are very short geared and 6th is no longer than 5th in an sr box. Z33 box would be your best option, but again it's not a direct bolt on, so you will need a conversion kit.

Sorry to hike your thread, but what would need to be done to make a Z33 trans fit a stock S13 200sx with CA18DET?

Its a simple change with either conversion plate or bellhousing, so in my eyes yes it will fit. Although it would be pointless

However looked at ratios of z33 gearbox and it seems to make a bit of sense here if applied to the CA18 in terms of top speed/economy (basically length of 6th).

But with SR, the top is actually longer (0.759) with the stock gearbox than the Z33 item (.838).

If you also swap in the diff from a Z33, this starts to make more sense... 3.098 sr VS 2.809172 with Z33.
However why would you not get a diff with a longer final drive anyway? If you want to keep gears close to eachother, and don't mind switching in a Z33 diff or a similar one, then Z33 transplant makes sense as, by using the ratios above, the Z33 transmission and diff set up seems to be 1.1x as long as the stock SR, meaning that at 100mph in an SR, doing the same revs in top gear with the Z33 transmission/diff setup, you'll be doing 110mph.

worth it? you tell me

how can you do this? can someone else tell me? i have an auto in my s13 and wouldn't mind switching straight to a Z33 if it's fairly straightforward as the gears are short in a normal CA18DET's box, however if it was my SR20DET with stock box, i wouldn't bother.

I had an SR22DET (bored out) with stock SR gearbox in an S13 and found motorway economy to be extremely good for the performance/type of car, regularly averaging well above 30mpg on a run.

there are adapter plates flying about for Z33 box, more and more people are using them, try searching ebay.com and google

The bell housing on the z33 box need some machine work to fit an sr or a ca engine type it into ebay.com they are forsale their but do not ship international
